Need Advice For Mounting Monitor 40 Surrounds

Hello Everyone. New to Polk, Club Polk and 5.1.

After a good bit of research I finally dropped $870 on a Series II setup from Newegg - (2) Monitor 70 SII fronts, CS2 SII center, PSW505 sub, and (2) Monitor 40 SII surrounds. I'm still in the unpacking and admiring phase, but if they sound half as good as they look, I'll be more than happy.

From reading and looking at online manuals my understanding is that surround speakers should be either in-line with the listeners facing inward or behind the listeners facing forward, AND should be 2-3 feet above the listeners (6-7 feet above the floor). The Monitor manuals showed a keyhole on the back of the speakers, allowing wall mounting with a sturdy screw into studs or hollow wall anchors; this sounded like the simplest method to me. But now I see the Monitor 40 doesn't have a keyhole; I'm guessing that method is only for the lighter Monitor 30 and not suitable for the 16-pound Monitor 40. And it doesn't seem like a good method anyway; I see the Monitor 40 is rear-ported and the port shouldn't be flush up against the wall should it?

So what's the best way to mount a 16-pound surround speaker 6 feet high? Are there stable 6 foot stands at a reasonable price? And if you use shelves do you need to allow space for the ports? I want the best possible sound but maybe I should get smaller speakers?

Thanks very much for any advice,

Dave

Purchase Pinpoint AM40 mounts for the wall. Its what I used for my Monitor 40's and many others have as well. Instead of securing them w/ the screws on the bottom as suggested, use blu tack, velcro or something else so you dont damage the speakers veneer.

Couple pics of the mount (I have Primus 162's on it now but they are the same height as the Monitor 40's just wider)

    Thanks for the replies.

Those mounts look like a very nice solution; in fact, I went ahead and ordered them last night. I had not seen any with a clamping platform like that, only ones that looked like they had a single threaded post.

Don't know why I got so spooked. I knew the exact specs; for some reason I had pictured them smaller and lighter in my mind.

    Thanks again for your help.
