Comparison to PT?
-
No comparison. Much different. Did you get SW's Insurgentes? Its along those lines.
-
It's on HDTracks as well, only 48/24 bit though
-
I just finished my first listening. Overall I'm very impressed. Insurgents was just ok for me, this one is MUCH more listenable for me, I like it alot. Thanks for mentioning it, this one slipped by me altogether with the Opeth and Dream Theater releases

Got it last week along with 2 Riverside CDs but still waiting for time to give them a good listen.cristo
NAD C 545BEE cd player, Philips AF877 turntable / Shure V15V-MR with JICO SAS stylus,

Cristo,
What Riverside CD's did you get. I had heard of them from time to time but never really listened to them. I caught some of their Live stuff on youtube last month and was very impressed.
@assimilated what is your overall feeling of the Opeth and DT releases? -
Both albums are fine. I wasn't overly impressed or hugely disappointed with either one. I'd say each album was an average effort from each band. I'm not complaining though, average from those bands is still very good.

Got Second Life Syndrome and Anno Domini High Definition.
Haven't listened to them yet and these would be my first listen to Riverside except
iTune or Amazon brief clips.cristo

The "Grace for Drowning" blu-ray arrived yesterday and I got to listen to first three or four songs so far
(in DTS HD Master Audio) multi-channel. Very nice. -

Cristo please give us your reviews when you have had a proper chance to listen to them. I would really like to know what you think.
This is What Turned me on to them....have yet to get anything from them, but am excited to give them a solid listen.

I like the new Steven Wilson album quite a lot, more each time I listen to it.
There's quite a variety of sounds and moods that please me. I liked Insurgentes,
but not nearly as much as this one - I think I was expecting more from Insrurgentes
than it actually delivered.
Riverside's Second Life Syndrome disappointed me somewhat. It has too much of what I don't really
care for in typical heavy metal fare (I'll point to screaming vocals over power chord riffs as the main
example), but I have to admit it has more merit than most bands of that genre and they're good musicians.
Riverside's A.D.H.D. was more to my liking. They sound more unique now and I like what I'm
hearing more than on the earlier one. I think they've developed quite a bit musically by this album.cristo

I'll have to check out Riverside, video intrigues me.
I'm with you on the Steven Wilson CDs. I like this one alot better than Insurgents. Insurgents wasn't put together as well and for me lacked the cohesion that you normally find on work he's involved in, this one is a better listen through for me.
