I am in need of some input on what I should use to run a set of Polk Audio RTA15tl' s that I have had since the 1990's. I used to have them hooked up to a Carver system when first bought but thosr items are long gone. I am running them with a old kenwood KA-V6000 intergrated amp.
The speakers need the tweeters replaced, I have new part # but have not called yet doing that Friday(tommorow).
I want to purchase a new amp but do not know if I want a surround amp, intergrated power amp, power amp w/ control amp or a tube amp.
I never owned a tube amp and do not know what wattage to get or what is the best kind that will not break the bank. I have seen the YAQIN and Music Angel tube amps that are on e-bay but do not know if any good( the price is right though)
The speakers sound good but tweeters need help. I was going to sell them and still kicking that around. But I love those things.
Can any one give input?

I have a set of 15's and love them very much. I have RDO 198 tweeters in them as well as rebuilt crossovers. I am running them with a Sunfire theater grand 5 receiver and the sound amazing! That is about the only receiver you can run these with and make them actually perform. They need lots of power to make them come alive. I have also powered them with a HK PA 2400 amp. The more power the better. You can find some decent power amps on Audiogon or on Ebay. You should try the RDO's and a good recap on your speakers and you will be impressed. Good luck!

how much power we talking?
-
The Sunfire is a true 160 to 170 watts of good clean power. The HK is rated at 175 watts a channel and has a 100 amp current rating. The HK is under rated for sure, its a beast. The speakers really start sounding good when I have the volume up around 70 to 80 percent on the Sunfire.

So something in that power range, Ok the guys I work with suggest an Onkyo pruduct.

While there is nothing wrong with an Onkyo product there are much better choices out there. Unless you are talking receiver style, then Onkyo, Pioneer, Denon and Harmon Kardon are all good choices.
If I were going seperates,(The best sounding route) I would get a Dared SL2000a Tube Preamp, and A B&K, Rotel, or Carver Solid State amp. Anything in the 150watt range would do you just fine. Then you will have a nice mix of the best of both worlds without breaking the bank so to speak.
There is no Onkyo out there that could touch a setup like this in sound quality. -
Go straight power amp or intergrated? then later add maybe a tube amp?
