HI guys, another newby. I just purchased a new Yamaha RX-V871 and I want to hook it to my PSW505. I have lots of options, but don't know which I should use. On the receiver, I have a sub 1 and a sub 2 outputs, along with the line level jacks (red and white)? On the PSW505 I have an LFE rca jack and two line in jacks. Not sure I understand the whole filtered/not filtered thing. HELP?

Rich, welcome to Club Polk. Connect the sub 1 output on your 871 to the LFE input on your 505. Use an ordinary coaxial cable with an RCA plug on each end; it doesn't have to be specifically labeled a "subwoofer cable" , because there really is no such thing. The 871 has an internal crossover which combines a low-pass filter on the sub which rolls it off above the set frequency(typically 80Hz)with a high-pass filter which rolls the speakers off below that frequency. Since the sub output is already filtered in the receiver there's no need for the internal adjustable low-pass filter(not a full crossover)in the sub to be used, which might interfere with the job the receiver has already done. So, the so-called "LFE" input(not a very clear description)bypassesthe sub's internal low-pass filter and the receiver's filter is allowed to do the job.
