should i just pull the trigger on some monitor30s for surrounds? there 80$ brand new with a coupon code. Or, should i spend the 300 or so for some fxi3 or 4s, is it going to be that big of a difference in quality as it is in $$? The monitor40s are just too large IMO

Go with the 30's unless you plan to upgrade your setup then go with the fxi's. The fxi's are definitely a better speaker for surround duty though. I guess it all depends what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

You have two different speakers. The monitors will be directional. You point them at you. Where the FXI's have sound coming out of both sides. It makes it harder to pin point by ear where the speaker is located. They give you a more natural surround sound. Your also stepping up the food chain going from the monitors to the RTI series FXI's. You will have better surrounds than the rest of your system but they say voice or tember matching isnt as important with the rear surrounds.

1 to 2 feet above ear level if possible.

as you can see theres plenty of options to the left, to the right its either go ear level and face at couch or go higher in the corner of the wall and face em diagonally in. what do you guys think

Put them both on the side wall shooting directly toward the couch.

    See example here: http://www.thx.com/consumer/home-entertainment/home-theater/surround-sound-speaker-set-up/

I used my FXi 3's with my old Monitor 70's and CS2 and it was great.

I'm a HUGE fan of the FXi series.
