One of my friends has offered to buy my current surround sound setup from me for a pretty good price

Receiver - Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH
Front - Polk Audio Monitor 70s
Center - Polk Audio Monitor CS2
Rear - Polk Audio Monitor 40s
Sub - PSW 505).

So I was considering his offer because then it means I get to buy new stuff, in which I've already been researching a little and think this is the way I want to go...

Receiver - Pioneer Elite VSX-53
Front - Polk Audio RTI A7
Center - Polk Audio CSI A6
Rear - Polk Audio FXI A6
Sub - DSW pro 600

So my question is do you think it is worth it to upgrade, not so much in a financial comparison, but more so of a sound/entertainment comparison...as in will I notice a big difference in sound quality between what I have and what I want to get. Also, I'm pretty set on the speakers that I want, but is there any other receivers anyone would recommend that are around $700 to $1000 other than the VSX-53. I've had the vsx-91txh for about 3 years now and have enjoyed it, so I am kind of a Pioneer fan, but just wondering if there is something better out there.

For a sub go with the DSW Pro 660WI. It is the same sub as the regular DSW Pro 600 but the amplifier has 2x the power. 500 watts RMS, 1000 Peak.
    AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
    Amplifier: Carver A-753x 250 watts x 3
Fronts: Polk RTI A7 (modded by Trey VR3)
Center: CSI A4 (modded by Trey VR3)
    Rear: FXI A4
    Sub: Polk DSW Pro 660wi
    TV: LG Infinia 50PX950 3D
    Speaker Cable: AudioQuest Type 8
    IC: AudioQuest Black Mamba II

Pioneer Elite SC series. Used ones can be had in that range easy. There were a few in our flea market here not long ago...

And, yes, those RTi-A's will sound much better.

    Welcome to CP!!!

go with the sc-35. i have last years model of thr vsx-53. i have the vsx-33 ( not that i'm complaining ). if i had known the sc-35 were gonna be discounted to what there selling for now. i would have waited. your going to want more power for your rti a7s. i solved it with a parasound hca1500 from ebay. but that will cost you another 4 to 5 hundred. find an sc . and stop the madness

Spend a lil exstra and get the SC-35. I just got mine. I moved up from a 1020k which is close to your current reciever and its a HUGE DIFFERENCE! If you go to 6th Ave Electronics (believe they are a Authorized dealer) you can pick up a SC-35 in the $900 range. Find one of their promo codes and you can get anywhere from 4%-25% off that price. I picked up my Rti A7's brand new for $760 for the set and that was tax+Shipping included.

What are the main differences between the SC-35 and the SC-37 or the new SC-55? Is it worth it to spend the extra money and go with the SC-37 or SC-55 and which one would be better to go with?

Most people can't tell any difference between the Pioneer Elite SC-35 and SC-37. There is media server setup and an extra surround sound setting from what I remember. I have heard no one speak of sound or build quality difference.

I do truly enjoy my SC-35 with my RTi A towers (A9's and A7's) and would not hesitate to suggest anyone to purchase one of these SC units.

I haven't heard much about the new SC-55/57 other than extra surround sound modes, two more channels of output, and now using Pioneer's own D-class amp instead of B&O ICE amp modules.
