originally saw the polk psw 505 for 199 and was very excited. Starting going deeper and looking at the BIC F12 which then led me to the HSU STF-2 and on my local CL is a svs pb10 for $300. One of these are going with monitor 70s/30s/cs2. Whats the best sub for under 500?

Yes the DSW line is much better than the PSW line (with maybe the exception being the PSW505)

I would say the entire line of DSW Pro subs is better than the PSW line. That is compairing subs with the same size driver.

So the DSW Pro 600 or 660WI is > the PSW505.

I would go with the WI series subs. They have 2x as many watts as the regualr DSW Pro line.

Part of making low freq sound is the physical size of the driver (or sufrace area). Buying an 8 in sub that has a lot of power wont out preform a lower powered sub that has a 15" driver. Yes the design and build qualiy are also key factors.

Please understand the room your are trying to preasurize and the sub you are choosing is capable of preasurizing a room that big.
    LXWXH - cubic feet.

Otherwise you may not be happy.

im confused about how many people rave about the hsu STF-2 but it has such a low power rating compared to the BIC PL200? still looking for the right choice under 400

The DSW Pro 600 goes 5 hz lower than the BIC F12. The BIC F12 only has a 150w amplifier.

The DSW Pro 600 and HSU STF-2 have about the same frequency for the -3 or (HSU's -2) db point. 25hz. The DSW Pro has a 12 in driver vs the HSU's 10. The HSU has a 200 watt amp and DSW Pro 600 has a 250 watt ampilifer.

The DSW Pro 660 Wi has a 500 watt amplifier. It also has 4 phase settings. 0,90,180,270.

You can get the DSW Pro WI's for a good price when new egg has them on sale. Pretty comparable to the HSU, but more than the BIC F12. The BIC F12 can be bough on amazon for $200.

Its a better sub. Just because it has more watts don't make it better.

HSU rates the STF -2 for up to a 3k cf room.

Andrew, you seem to just want a sub to plop in place and be happy. If you don't learn and investigate you will end up disappointed and have wasted your money.

9/10 this is what I see people doing.

1/2 wattage and has a frequency responce down to 22hz where the DSW PRO 660WI goes down to 20hz. BIC doesnt give a -3db spec.

I plan to move within a year so I don't want to be confined to a smaller room sub just to upgrade in 9 months

well i guess im a tad confused on amp ratings and hz ratings. The polk dsw pro 660 is $393 amazon. The pl-200 is 328$ amazon. The stf-2 is 349$ and the bic F12 is onsale, and of course polk 505 is 199. So i guess whats going to give me the best bang, literally bang for my buck. Room right now is 2k cf

Hz is the frequency. The human ear hears from 20hz to 20,000hz.

The -3db point is the frequency in wich the subs volume has dropped 3 decibles. As subs play lower frequencys they loose volume. So the -3db point is where the sub starts to fall off in volume as the frequencys get lower.

Wattage is the power rating of the amplifier. Dynamic or Peak wattage is for quick momentary bursts.

If it were me I would be looking at a bigger, better sub. You can always turn down a sub if its too loud. But you cant make a sub better or louder. So save and get better. You also have not mentioned Elemental designs subs. They are also very good subs.
