New Blackstones as Lsi surrounds?

I currently operate a 7.1 setup, as follows:

Fronts: lsi 15s (freestanding)
Sides: lsi 9s (on stands)
Rears: lsi 7s (wall mounted)

It sounds excellent. But, I have ongoing, non-technical issues with the 7s. They are relatively deep as satellites, and the combination of sofa location (I just barely have enough room to go 7.1) and young children in the home keep me wishing I had smaller speakers back there.

The new blackstones appear to use the same drivers as the lsi series? Does anyone have an idea as to whether they would serve as "matched" surrounds for my system, replacing the lsi 7s? I have tried the RMs there and the difference was noticeable enough that I went back to the lsi 7 series.

I wouldn't worry as much for matching on surrounds, the blackstones would be a good option though alittle costly to be used as surrounds. What are you driving all those LSI's with anyway ? Any room for inwalls ? Def tech makes some nice flat speakers too that may interest you.

No idea on if the blackstones would work or not, but why not try the FXi A4's. I dont think they are as deep as the LSi 7's.

Good advice, I've been thinking of doing the same thing. the LSiFX's are too large for my space, and I've been looking for a good deal on some FXi3/A4s. Ever since I added my amp my wave 100's aren't sounding that great anymore, not like they sounded great in the first place though, but I think I'm throwing them too much power.

Look for some RM7500's.. they look very LSi-like in terms of finish, but are very shallow in cabinet depth and perform better IMHO, than just about any other satellite-type speaker that I have heard. You can find them on CL and the 'Bay pretty frequently at very cheap prices.

Have you considered in-wall or in-ceiling mounting options? I have LSi9s on stands and LSiC for the front, and am currently running old school M3s ceiling mounted for rears in a 5.1 layout. I have purchased, but not installed, the Vanishing Series 80 F/X - LS speakers for rear surround duty. They are supposed to be a match for the LSi series, and I believe they are also designed to overcome some of the shortcomings of mounting in ceiling as opposed to at ear level. Unfortunately I have absolutely nothing to say about the sound or matching of these speakers with the rest of my system as I haven't installed them yet. They are also pricey, but you can probably find a bit of a deal on them with a little searching. Here is a link to Polk's information page on the speakers: http://www.polkaudio.com/customaudio/vanishing/index.php#80fxls

These are supposed to be an in-wall/in-celing match for LXiFX, but there are also models that do not have the FX capability that are lower in price (500-LS, 700-LS, & 900-LS). You should also be able to see those if you follow the link I included above.

I just thought I would put that out there, since your concerns with the LSi7s matched mine when I considered using them as rear surrounds.

    Thanks!
