Upgrading my theater in a box to something worth listening to. I wanted some advice I am debating between the older psw 505 sub or the dsw 500. I have an onkyo 609 receiver, cs20 center and tsI 200 fronts, still debating on my rears. Which is a truly better sub? I live in an apartment so as much as I would love to rattle the building quality is more of a concern, but I still do want some kick, my neighbors are pretty relaxed. Wiring recommendations would also be appreciated my current set up does not have all the options that either of these subs have. thanks for the help.

I would go with the dsw 500 all day long. The dsws are great subs. They are as good or better as the psw 505 for ht, but much more musical. As far as wiring, just use the lfe or subwoofer output on your Onkyo and run a good quality subwoofer cable to the sub. Also a good quality power cable like the Pangea AC-9 will make a noticable difference in bass weight, clarity, and detail. A good thing to do as far as placement of the sub is this; go ahead and hook up the sub and run the autocalibration on your avr to get the sub level set. After this walk around the room and listen to what areas the bass seems to be the strongest with the must impact. Once you determine this point(s), place the sub in this location(s) if it's feasible.

+1 on the 500. It's really more a question of budget. If it's tight, then the 505, if you have some more to spend get the 500. The newer sub is tighter and more musical than the old version. The 505 is best suited for HT duty only, whereas the 500 does HT and music equally well!

I would go with the DSW Pro550Wi. Same speaker as the DSW Pro 500 only it has twice the wattage.
    AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
    Amplifier: Carver A-753x 250 watts x 3
Fronts: Polk RTI A7 (modded by Trey VR3)
Center: CSI A4 (modded by Trey VR3)
    Rear: FXI A4
    Sub: Polk DSW Pro 660wi
    TV: LG Infinia 50PX950 3D
    Speaker Cable: AudioQuest Type 8
    IC: AudioQuest Black Mamba II

So I have never got the opportunity to hear the 505, but it gets very good reviews. For the price I would suspect it is hard to beat.

However the DSW PRO 500 sub is fantastic. A sleeper musical sub indeed.

You can never buy too much sub. I'd ditto the recommendation on the DSW PRO 500 over the 505. The 505 has an unusually large foam surround, and foam will age and eventually rot. The 500 has a rubber surround. The DSW Pro550Wi you may actually find at a lower price than the Pro500

I recently picked up the DSW Pro660wi at a great price on Amazon. I am ecstatic!!!

I would definitely go with the dsw series over the psw's. I just picked up 2 dsw pro 600 and am very pleased with their output. They hit very low and clean sounding not like other polks I have owned
