Looking to upgrade from my RT800 possibly RTi A7 or A9
I have owned my RT800's since new for about 11 years, been thinking on going with a newer lineup mainly since I feel the mids and highs are missing something. I have heard that the RTi A7 and A9, even still having the silk dome tweeter are leaps ahead of the RT800, i'm also hoping that they will still compliment the CS400 center.
I'm mainly after more critical listening in 2ch with getting back into vinyl and would like to stay with Polk since my center and rears are also Polk all using the 6 1/2" drivers, rears are the M5.
All input and criticism apreciated.
Also, has anyone done a crossover mod with the RT800 with success?

Dude check into the Polk Lsi line. I have them and they are phenominal for movies and music. I have the rt800 in my garage still, and they come nowhere near the Lsi's. By comparison, Polk's Rtia's are usually cheaper, but I am sure you can score some reasonably priced used lsi's too. I can also say that if you decide to change speakers, you may want to swap them all out.
I have not done any mods to my rt800's, so I cannot comment on that.LIVING ROOM:
Emotiva XPA-5, Emotiva USP-1, Polk LSI15's, Polk LSiC, Velodyne 12", Mirage Nanosat Prestige rears, MIT AVT Speaker Cables, Audioquest King Cobra Interconnects, Panamax M5300pm Surge Protection/ Power Conditioning -
I guess the title should have read A5 or A7,.that's what I meant.
Wanted to mention I'm also running a sub. The LSi 15 is very nice, heard it mates well with a sub as well.
I'm thinking the LSi may be out of the budget but is considered. -
Would I be taking a step backwards going with the RTi A5 over my RT800's?
I hear about the single mid driver producing better midrange or more precise mids, is this true?
With that being said, how would the Monitor 10 series 2 compare, with or without the SDA? Been toying with the idea of trying the vintage route.
2CH sound quality is my primary goal. -
I think you are going to be buying the same quality of speaker...
I would recommend looking used at other brands out there to see what might tickle your fancy if your budget is lower...
The RT series has been a make over after make over with parallel sonic advances over ten years. But they sure get prettier.
For instance I have a set of RT35i and RTi12 in my room right now and the RTi12 is just a louder, bigger, version of the rt35i. IMO
If you like the Polk RT sound but want "better" sound without spending "LSi" money - I recommend Definitive Tech (BP10B +)- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I thought about the LSi9's and placing them on stands, or will I lose midbass not being a tower?
