speaker matching

Just looking for a little help. I am updating my yamaha theater in a box setup w/ hopefully some quality. I have just purchased a onkyo 609 reciever & a polk cs20 center speaker. I know the ti series has some options for great towers that will accompany the cs20 but I live in an apt & don't have the space. I liked the idea of going small w/ a punch for my fronts & surrounds like the rm 8's, but don't think they're going to match appropriately.
Also anybody got ideas for a sub. I've been thinking about an older model the psw505 because of its rep & its current price $240. I'm just scared I may get evicted because of its punch. I heard the 10inch sub dsw500 is similar quality, but a little more resonable. Just wondering if its worth double the price @ $550. I'm more looking for quality over breaking windows, but I would like to feel a little more bass than my current setup.
Any ideas, I'm open to older quality models or possibly a different brand. Thanks.

If you want a really good sounding Home Theater and want small speakers I would run Polk RTI A3's or RTI A1's. You can get them from Polks ebay store. They dont have any of the RTI A3's on there but the RTI A1's are $220 with free shipping.

The older RTI4's can be had for $162 shipped.

You will need to eventually change the center speaker out. It isnt voiced matched to the RTI line. The RTI line is way better for Home Theater than the Monitor line for home theater.

    RTI4's

    RTI A1's

Or you can wait to get the slightly larger A3's. They have a 6 1/2 in woofer where the RTI A1's have a 5 1/4 in driver.

    Sub: Polk DSW Pro 660wi

Another idea if you want to stay in the TSi family and not have to worry about timbre matching issues with another line would be to pick up a set of TSi 200's for your fronts. Newegg is out of stock on them right now, but they sell for $319 a pair, and will go on sale from time to time. If you don't mind the minor asthetic differences, you could also look into a set of Monitor 40's, which are pretty much the same speaker (acoustically) as the TSi series. Newegg has them in black and cherry for $150 a pair. I had a set of 40's as my surrounds and used them as a makeshift 2 ch. setup before I got my Monitor 10's and they sound very good as fronts in a smaller setup. They will timbre match with your CS20 no problem, and the 505 will play nicely with all of them. Welcome to the Forum.

Hey jbooker I looked into the RTi's and everything about them sounds great, but I'm not crazy about buying a new center speaker my cs 20 is brand new. Would it be that much of a mismatch? I could do a swap to the A6 center, cause I still have time for an exchange, but is the A6 that much better than the cs20 its over $100 more and a little to big for my setup. It will look a little absurd under my TV.
    Thanks for the help

I think I'm leaning towards the Tsi 200's just wanted to way my options. Thanks wutadumsn.

People have run mismatched HT setups with some success, but it isn't usually a good idea. The acoustics are very different between the two series' and I would imagine it would not be hard to notice a difference. As jb said, the RTi's are better for HT, and that is why they cost more, I have a full Monitor/TSi setup for my HT and it sounds just fine to me. If I had the money, I might get something different, but no matter what you get now, you will always want to upgrade it in the future, tis the nature of the beast around here. Get into something you can afford and enjoy, and later on down the road if you get a bigger place or something you can invest some more money in, take it from there. That is what I did 3 years ago, and my setup is still running strong.

It just depends. I havent personally run any of the Monitor / TSI line. I knew if I started out with the Monitor / TSI line up it wouldn't be long before I would want to up grade, so I just jumped in head first with the RTI setup. There are plenty of guys on here who have went from the Monitor / TSI line to the RTI line up and they said it was worth it. Guys swapping big Monitor 70's out for smaller RTI A5's with a sub have even said it was worth it.

If you can swap it for a CSI A6 why cant you swap for a CSI A4. The 4 is just the smaller version of the 6. See if they would let you swap it out. Where did you get the CS20?

So your saying that they will take the c20 back and give you store credit twards the csi a6 which they have in stock. But they don't have a csi a4. Could they order you one.
