It's been my experience that squeezebox just follows orders from the rip and info on the tags.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *

same here...it's only recent that it's occurred...i'll check the shuffle

Sounds like a tagging issue. SQB only deciphers what's encoded in the ID3 tag of the digital file, as Rich said.

that makes sense, of course...as the cd is ripping, i watch the progress..it goes in order...in the wma files, the song order is fine...that's why it's wierd...all of a sudden, too..btw, the pink floyd remasters are killer

I doesn't matter what the file name is or the order it's ripped in Windows, all that matters is the ID3 tag and those settings are in the ripping program.

Did someone say squeezebox?

good one! i was up, not all night but past my bedtime...and the sb is mine not mama's -
got it figured out....WAV does not have tags, apparently..this, helps with song order among other things....so, i ripped in WM lossless..order has been restored;)

ID3 tags are the "lifeblood" of a digital library. WAV files have to be manually tagged, ie, you can't use one of the automatic tagging services like FreeCDDB, etc. You could go into Media Monkey and tag the WAV file yourself manually, but if you have a lot, it's a PITA.
I guess I just assumed everyone knew about the importance of ID3 tagging when ripping digital files. It's universal.
Also as I said before, a "FILE NAME" in Windows is NOT the same as an ID3 Tag.

yeah you can assume the worst with me...not sure why i started using wav...i really didn't have troubles until i switched computers. then, i started to use wmp for ripping...that's when the song order malady arose...now it's fine...i'm using wm lossless..just got me a backup hard drive, so i'm not completely clueless;)

If you are letting wmp tag the files for you, make sure it's configured how you want it. The default settings I'm sure will do the job, but double check them. wmp uses an outside free service on the net to pull in the track info.

that's correct...then you can confirm the album info they found..then continue ripping..
thanks h9
