This little tablet is exactly what I've been looking for. A simple tablet, android based, perfect for browsing, magazines and other media consumption. I could maybe deal with a bit more onboard storage, but I'll manage with cloud based, since I won't often use it without a WiFi connection.

Ipad killer? certainly not. however, the only reason I ever wanted an ipad was for the full size Pioneer app to control my Elite receiver. otherwise, it seems to fill a gap in the tablet market for those of us that have no desire for Ipad's OS, size, or camera/mic.

oh, and I'm sure it is only a matter of hours after the release that it will be rooted.

discuss.

    It's also hella cheaper.

I probably won't buy a Fire, but I may buy one of the new cheaper Kindles.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Once I get a decent music server that I can control over the net by dragging CDs, songs, etc. into the play mode I will get one. The Android app already exists for controlling music servers. Reading stuff will be a side benefit.

Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

I'm waiting for some in hand reviews, but the wife and I are definitely interested.. she wants a kindle for Xmas regardless at the 199, even if it gets mediocre reviews it'll probably be worth it for her..

just keep in mind the Fire is not a typical e-reader. My wife has the regular Nook with the e-ink screen and we tried the nook color and didn't like it as much. For just reading the e-ink is much easier on the eyes...

    +1
for sure. If you you want to read ebooks primarily, I would not go with the Fire.

If you want a color reader, wait until next year for the color e-ink tablet to come out. for web. video and magazines, the Fire should fare well.

Is color e-ink really a thing?

I know it's been tried. search for Hanvon e reader. not that exciting, but it's happening and probably will soon. next year is probably abit optimistic on my part.
also, I guess I should have written my post a little clearer. I meant a color tablet that also would feature e ink, but not in color. I am almost positive I read something about that over the last couple days, but again it could have been within a comment thread and not a reliable source. I'm looking for it now.

a bit more on color e ink here and here

infant stages, so anything i said about a decent product next year is horse ****, i would assume
