Ah, the rumble of the furnace blower motor

We've updated a lot of stuff around here, but not the furnace and A/C because it still tests good and works fine . . . but I can sense that subtle rumble when it's on.

Yep, it's that time of year again when the prefect dead-quiet listening environment in my home office (when my wife and kids are off to work and school) is interrupted when the heat comes on

Yep! I turn my rig down or off when the furnace is running

The old squirrel-cage blower in my zone-1 furnace is about 16" in diameter and is the root of the problem. We're due for an update. The furnace that handles the bedrooms was updated a few years back and I can't tell when it's on when I'm playing at 45db or greater.

I have been reluctant to run my Aleph over the Summer because it raises the room temp by 3*, but Fall and Winter it makes for a nice heater.

Suprised you need the heat on in Ohio already. Haven't had to use it here in Northern Michigan yet, although the temp in the house has dropped to 64 or so at night, it comes back up to 68-69 by evening. Heck, I was still using the air conditioner until 2 weeks ago.

You probably will be needing the furnace by tomorrow morning, after that massive cold front comes through. Your morning lows on Friday will only be in the 40s and you probably won't warm up much all day. Saturday morning, even colder (in the 30s). Heck, its supposed to be in the 40s all the way down here in Georgia! I'm testing out my furnace tonight just to make sure. It hasn't been on since February.

Our furnace rumbles all summer long--we heat water off it. But fortunately it's a short period and as the heat increases the period of operation decreases. In any case it only affects the HT on the first floor some. The more critical listening is on the second floor in my back office which is about two rooms away from the furnace location toward the front of the house and two floors above it. No problems there.

With Brock, I am also hesitant to run my tube integrated when it gets hot in my office. No air-conditioning in there...just fans?

When the dead of winter hits here up North...the furnace is always on and off, on and off. Your best option for the HT is Action films with lots of LFEs; just turn up the Sub! And, it goes without saying that 'tubes' are 'warm' in both senses that time of year!!

Maybe by Saturday morning, but it's back up in the mid 60's and lower 70's by Sunday, may just tough it out. This house is insulated extremely well. I did test mine a couple weeks ago just in case.

I don't really hear a rumble with our HVAC, I hear the air coming through the vents quite loudly. Down here in Georgia, its worse in the Summer though. From mid-April through mid-September its the AC blowing for ~30 minutes of every hour. In the winter, its much less frequent and I think the air is quieter coming out of the vents (warm air is less dense?). Fall and spring, the system hardly comes on at all.

Buring wood is cheaper, more quiet and more fun! Still, I'm not looking forward to bone chilling temps although I spend more time listening to music in winter than any other time of the year....well, after football is done for the day.

For whatever reason, the heater and AC noise does not bother me when listening. However, the refrigerator drove me crazy, so I moved it into the garage. Excellent idea, and it gave more space in the kitchen for a wine rack.

Are you single? My wife is great about putting up with my hobby, and equipment taking up half the living room. I'm pretty sure she would have a fit if I put the fridge in the garage. I'm sure I'd find it inconvenient myself.

If they ever get around to natural gas drilling on my land I may have to rethink the fuel source!
