Troubleshooting sub - no sound

Went to turn on system, today and noticed no bass from sub. I didnt play with any wires or setup. Went through everything including unplugging sub for awhile. Looks like the receiver is sending a signal as the red stand by light goes to green on the sub but no sound. Am I missing something? Its a Sony dual 10" sub. So if it was a speaker problem one would work..maybe? Or the amp is done? Ideas?

thanks

    Hello BigA,
One way to determine if the problem is the sub or the receiver is to unplug the sub from the receiver at the receiver's end. Then with the sub's AC unplugged connect the sub-cable to the audio output of any high level component. It could be your CD player or DVD player and start playing a CD, while turning on the sub and slowly advancing the volume control. There should be bass at a low setting of the volume control. If no sound then the next step is to determine if the problem is with the sub's amplifier or the two woofers. But, it might be best to check with Sony to see how they might want to handle that part.
    Good luck, Ken
