I have for sale an excelent condition (8/10 for age, but I can't find a scratch on it) of Cary Rocket 88R with 1 set (4) of KT88/JJ, 1 set (2) of EL84, 1 set (2) of 12AX7, and one biased cable. The amplifier has both RCA and XLR input/output. I have extra sets of new EL84 and 12AX7. I will include them as a bonus.

I have this amplifier for more than a year and use it a few times (50 hours the most), so the tubes are mostly fresh. I remove the tube amplifier from the system to avoid my daughter getting burn, and it was sitting on shelve since then. I don't have original boxes but will have the amplifier in double boxes for packaging.

==> $1450.00 including Fedex Standard Ground Shipping (and insurance). Split Paypal Fee. USPS Money Order is fine with me. Please let me know if you have any question.

Are the EL84 the pre amp tubes with the 12AX7s the drivers? seems backwards if that is the case.
If life had more tubes it would be a lot smoother.

I have been eyeing these babies since this post first came out. I just started a new job, so I'm waiting for a couple more paychecks, but if I'm lucky enough for this amp to still be around in another couple of weeks..........

I want to try out tube amp... And I am thinking about doing it with the SDAs (either 4.1TL or 2.3TL).
Is this a common grounded amp? If not, can I strap the 2 negative posts together?
Is 30/60 wpc enough to drive the 2.3TL with authority power?

The manual and spec does not mention if this is a common grounded amp. I suggest you to ask Cary Audio. I don't have Polk SDA speakers, but the amplifier drives pair of ProAc 2.5 or 1.5 with no problem.

This ad is around for a long time, and I almost forgot my amplifier for sale. I might need extra cash this time.

Last bump before going to Audiogon.

With 100 hours for break in time and an estimated only 50 hours of use, this Cary is still basically brand new. With spare tubes to boot. For those who are looking for more power, remember that tube power is nothing like SS power. 30 watts triode power "could" be considered the equivalent of 200 SS watts but with the sweet sounds of tubes and let's not forget that romantic tube glow. By nature, this is a high current amp. I hope this amp sells this go around and that it stays in the family. Best of luck with the sale my friend.

    Thanks Tom.

I was too lazy after having another boy in the family and hesitated to put it on Audiogon. The amp is still sitting there waiting for a new owner.

This is why I have been a stranger around these parts for a while. I get too enticed at what I peak at, such as this amp. I am interested but have a few questions that I would hope to get some objective feedback on before I pull any triggers. PM sent to express possible interest.

Currently running in my main system a vintage Marantz 7T pre into a nice Dynaco ST 70 driving pair of Polk CRS+ (upgraded tweeters and re-capped) with an HSU powered sub. Just recently purchased a very nice McIntosh MA6200 integrated that I was considering using instead of the Dynaco/Marantz. It is at the tech being evaluated at the moment. My immediate preference is to keep tubes in the upstairs system but was interested in seeing how the Mac sounded.

Alternatively, I could use the Mac to run the downstairs man cave system which currently is a small vintage Naim amp and pre (forget the models #s off top of my head) driving pair of ADS 1230. However, when I originally got the Mac couple of weeks ago I quickly ran it in the downstairs system and was impressed at first particularly with the added punch at the higher end but did notice a bit of "muddiness" at the low end when I started cranking the volume. The ADS could use some more oomph and the Mac would probably work well if I can tweak the "muddiness" out. I have really enjoyed the little Naim gear to date. I listen about 75% vinyl, 25% standard CD in both systems.

So, how well would the Cary mate with the Marantz pre and work with the CRS+? I am pretty sure the Cary would be a major step up from the Dynaco (have been very happy to date with the ST70 though). I would not be interested in the Cary for the downstairs system since I would prefer to keep that area as SS (at least for now).

    Thoughts?

    Thanks
    ted

    Hello Ted,

Thanks for your interest in the Cary amp. I am not familiar with Marantz preamp, Dynaco, or CRS+ speakers, so I can't answer your question. Hopefully, someone else can help to answer the question.

I had matched this amplifier with BAT VK-30 preamp, and they worked very well with ProAC1.5/2.5 speakers.
