I recently purchased some Time-Life Guitar Rock CD's. I was listening to the one that covers the years 1970-1971 and came across a song entitled D.O.A. by a group called Bloodrock. I have to say the subject matter is very dark and deals with a guy who is having a death / near death experience. It is very disturbing and it really weirded me out. I definitely haven't been able to forget about it all day long. Is anyone out there familiar with this song ? Truly not something I would expect from Time-Life.

Yes, I love that song. The countries best radio station, KQRS 92.5 from the Twin Cities (Marconi Award winner for most listened to local station in the U.S.) used to use it as background music when they did their annual "Dead Pool". My son had it on a "Godfathers Of Grunge" CD or something like that. You are right in that it doesn't sound very "Time Lifey".

I remembering hearing that song on KAAY's Beeker Street program hosted by Clyde Clifford. That must have been in the late 60's or early 70's. Other than that I don't think I ever own a copy of it or even heard it outside that radio program. FWIW, KAAY is a AM radio station out of Little Rock, Arkansas.

You need to do a bit of research on what "death metal" is. None of the artists you named are in that genre. Here's a quick look at Death Metal from Wikipedia.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Wasn't this song or Bloodrock brought up before here not too long ago? I remember it played down in the Houston and Dallas area back in the day. I think the song upset a number of parents,( I understand this now that I'm older, but as a kid I just thought it was discrimination against a rock group). Some of us here who grew up in the 70's probably remember that there were a lot of kids dying in car crashes due to alcohol and drugs. Qualuudes left a number either dead or paralysed. I want to say the feds eventually banned the sale of Qualuudes in the US and then they were being smuggled in from Mexico???

I don't require wickiwacki to define music genres for me. I consider A.Cooper & B. Sabbath to be the seminal slime that fostered all subsequent doom, gloom, death & mayhem horsesh!t. "rolleyes, smiley, wink"

given the atmosphere say 1970 ish,,,it was an adventure into some aspects of the culture,,not necissarily dark,,though it certainly can be perceived that way,,certainly an OOB perspective regarding death,,,,,I remember the first time I heard it,,I thought it was kinda novel,,but thats just me,,after all,,Timothy Leary's dead.
