Wed night a sub was going till 1.30
Thur sub going till 2 am
Friday sub going low but still audible all evening till 11pm
Sat sub pretty mutch all day

Tonight its really starting to wear me down as I lay in bed with the tv on and this omnidirection wave is just present

The noises I am hearing is from a video game and its just a constant rumble and it does not stop .I'm pretty cool and dont rock the boat as I like to have music blasting sometimes and enjoy the odd movie .These guys with the sub are really getting to me so I'm going to type a note up and stick and stick it on their door

Can anyone here give me a link to a good explanation of what the low frequencies are doing and make them understand that I can hear it even though they think the volumes low late at night .I ideally want to make this note educational for them and be as friendly as possible that way I can enjoy my stuff without getting complaints for me being loud on the odd occasion from when I listen

I would just point your equipment in the direction from wich the sound is coming from. Set your alarm for 5-6am and start jaming out at Ref Levels.

I can't remember the exact wave lenght distance/Hz, but it's pretty far in the mid 20's, like several feet and walls don't break them up much. Tell your neighbor in a lovely compassionate way that it's bugging you.

Tell them that there is not a problem with them playing their games at any volume they wish except late at night.
In places where I've lived where people are crowded together, volumes are expected to be less after 11, 12 at the latest. No problem playing late at night if they turn the sub off. I'm sure you're not the only one bothered by these inconsiderate morons. You will have community support.

Good luck in dealing with these fellows.

Writing a note is a chick move. Just knock on the door and express yourself. Be firm, but be polite about it. If it were me, I would respect your request and lower it down, that's the good neighbor way.

    Two choices.........

    1. Move back to the farm.

    2. Buy or rent if you cant afford to buy the biggest baddest sub you can afford then figure out what hours they keep, give them roughly an hour to get to sleep then turn it up as loud as you can for 30 mins turn off wait 30 mins for them to get back to sleep turn back on, repeat as many times as needed it shouldndt take too many of these episodes before they come knocking on your door, then you explain to them this is what you have been going through and you will get rid of yours once they ger rid of theirs.

    REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Be a man, stand up for yourself. Don't leave notes, that's pretty juvenile and will make you seem like a pushover. A face to face is what you need to do in these situations. If you aren't willing to stand up for yourself, look forward to being miserable your entire life.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

As mentioned physically talk to them. If that doesnt work do what myself or HB27 have done. Wake up early turn your gear up really loud and then leave for a couple hours.

If you have a dedicated sub just run that using test tones that go as low as you can get so its annoying as heck.....

Solved my problem for a couple days.

In college, my junior year, I lived right next to a frat house. They would be playing loud music all night and into the early morning. I was an early riser and many Sunday mornings they were treated to some very loud Grateful Dead. Neither of us ever complained.
I got static in my head

Agreed with the "just talk to them" crowd. My neighbor used to play his subwoofer really loud, every day, to the point I could feel it in my living room (duplex, and the shared wall is the living room). I told him straight up, I don't HEAR anything, so play it as loud as you want, but can you just turn the subwoofer down a little so Id on't FEEL it?

Since then aside from teh occasional rumble that I can deal with it's been great. Be reasonable and friendly and usually people will return the favor.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Neighbors suck and that's why we purchased lots of open space 2 decades ago.

Snow's idea to move back to the farm was best; otherwise ask the neighbor to turn the sub off or keep it low after 11PM.

The only time I ever lived in an apartment an overweight couple moved in above me. When they were in the mood, you could hear their bed squeak 20+ feet away outside.

I went to a few local bed stores, explained the issue and asked if they had any coupons. After I had a good selection, I picked up a can of WD-40 and a small gift basket. I knocked on their door and when they answered I said hello, handed them the gift basket (with coupons and wd-40) wished them a good day and walked away.

My lease was just about up and while the squeaking was less frequent, I don't know if they ever bought a new bed.

I had issues with my downstairs neighbors when I first moved in. The guy was older and complained all the time that I had my music too loud. He also didn't like that I was a younger guy living by myself for some reason. Well at first I would turn down my system but after awhile all I would ever hear is them fighting.

They would fight all hours of the day. Normally early morning at like 5 or 6 and sometimes later at night. He was unemployed and she worked and didn't like how he sat home all day. Anways, I got sick of hearing it seeing the fact that I couldn't even listen to music on week days because it bothered them so much. So the next time they started fighting I turned on my stuff and left it at about 90-95db and it was maybe like 7 at night. Well they started pounding on my floor (their ceiling). I refused to turn it down and finally the guy came up stairs and said to me I need to turn it down. I simply explained that I'm not in the mood to hear him and her screaming at each other so have to drown out the sound. Needless to say they never bothered me again.

That is the other part of the story. I cans deal with noise , but I want to be able to make noise as well. It isn't a one way street.

I also agree to have a face to face with them and ask them nicely to turn it down. If they dont comply go with snow's idea and wait for them to go to sleep and give them a hefty dose of their own medicine.

Notes suck, they piss people off.

From the sound of it, they probably have no idea that you can hear anything. With an old neighbor that shared a wall, I asked them to come into my house and hear my system at what I considered a "low" volume but still very listenable. We then went into their house, and listened. I could hear my own bass in their house, but almost no bass in my house. Their hanging art was rattling a bit. I turned up my system loud to a really loud level, then much quieter etc.

We did this until I knew my day limits, and night limits. It is about respect and communication, and possibly a basic schedule. I asked them to let me know when they were out to dinner or on vacation so that I could play as loud as I liked, but otherwise respected their tranquility. It's almost impossible to know your bass limit without going next door. Even now in my house I think sometimes I have it down a good bit, but in my bedroom near the back the window is slightly buzzing.

I'll bet there are plenty of ways to put that dog down that won't raise any suspicion. That sound is the worst sound in the world. Don't those idiots hear it?

You can always try reversing the phase of your speakers to see if this helps with this kind of issue - worth a shot

Hmm...what would that do? just curious. Wouldn't that mess up the SDA?

I use a maac mic for the setup on my amp, and now that I think about it, it may be better to run it without the sda cord, then rehook it up afterwards. like you said, it's worth a shot.
