Hi,
recently i bought myself Polk SurroundBar 6000 IHT, not realizing that it cannot play DST HD audio. So i went out and bought a Denon AVR-1712. hooked it up but I cant seem to get any audio to my surround bar. trying to use the optical cable, and this receiver only has optical In. i think i might be doing something wrong here but not sure what it is.
I need some help here. Any of you expertise here can help me out get this setup working?
Im starting to think that it might have been a mistake buying this receiver in the first place.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Since nobody else has responded, I'll take a whack at it, lol. Have you checked to see if the channel you are on for outputting audio to your SurroundBar is set to do so through the optical cable? Most recievers have default settings for audio/video on each channel, and I doubt any of them are set up to do so through optical cable by default. Just a thought. Hope you get it figured out, and welcome to Club Polk.

DTS HD and Dolby Digital HD cannot be played over Optical Audio or Coax digital audio cables. You have to use HDMI.
Does your Denon 1712 have HDMI inputs and the ability to process DTS HD and Dolby Digital HD? You might be better off getting rid of the sound bar and buying a Pair of RTI book shelfs, and a CSI A4 center channel.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Yea I just looked it does have HDMI and does process HD audio. I guess you need to decide what to do. Keep the avr and get different speakers, or keep the sound bar and be happy with lossy audio.
I would keep the avr and start to pice to gether a nice 5.1 system. Check out Polk's ebay store. They are factory referbs but most people say their stuff shows up looking new. That is where I got my CSI A4 center channel.
You might see what other people have to say but I am about 99% sure that you cannot use a Digital Coax or Fiber Optic cable for lossless HD Audio. You will still get sound it just wont be HD lossless.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Good point jb, didn't even think of that. Assumed he was just trying to pass DD 5.1, you got this one under control, lol.
