turntable starter kit

I just purchased a Thorens Td-160 turntable and need a vinyl cleaning(er) starter kit. I have not researched this yet and am kinda jumping the gun a little but there is a reason why. I don't want to buy all kinds of stuff I don't need yet so here is my proposal for those of you this applies to. I will offer a Van Morrison special in-store play contest sampler cd with original case that is in excellent condition with no scratches for a starter vinyl kit. I will leave the particulars up to you and will trust your judgement. The cd I am offering goes for around $40.00-$60.00 depending on where you buy it btw. Here is a link to show you what I am offering. Thanks. http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=65826
Everything matters. That is all.
Money cannot buy happiness, but it sure can buy a bad **** boat to pull up along side it though.

What is it you're looking for, exactly? Vinyl cleaning? Stylus cleaning? Stylus alignment? A level? A stylus force gauge? Because you'll need all those. And, I hate to break it to you, but it'll cost a bit more than 40-60 bucks. Heck, just 2 brushes, one nylon bristle and one mo-fi brush, will set you back about 40. You might be able to find a disc washer kit for around 100 or so though, but it pretty much sucks. And it won't help with alignment or getting the stylus force correct. Someone might have something cheaper though, so you could get lucky.Turntable: Empire 208

See, that's what I was talking about. I knew I needed a vinyl cleaning brush but did not know about the rest of the stuff. I need to increase my vinyl knowlegde quite a bit I see. I was not even in the market for a tt yet but it kind of fell in my lap and could not pass on the Thorens. It was a nice heavy looking piece and I wanted a taste. I know I jumped the gun here but this hobby isn't laid out with a clear plan or path to take.
In my limited experience with tt (other than when I was a kid) I didn't know how much was involved. Kinda like tubes, you gotta pay to play. Alot more to maintain but then again the sound is so much more pleasing than with most ss stuff I can afford. Kinda like having your cake and being able to eat the ice cream to with nothing to worry about. I've been on a quest.......when using ss gear to find the right synergy and sound I like. I've been on a quest when using tube gear and a tt as well, but it seems to me the sound I am after is closer this route than with ss gear imho. I feel like I just passed a test that I didn't even know I was taking. WHEW!!!! And to think I could have saved thousands if I just listened to my elders. Some of us have to do it the hard way though, lol.Everything matters. That is all.

Start with a Spin Clean record cleaning system and a Stylus cleaner. You don't have to spend a ton of money. If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.
