My BRP has HDMI & optical. My SSP has toslink, coax, of course analog. Plan to upgrade SSP w/next year's tax return.

What is DD? All Bluray players will output the lossy Dolby and DTS formats over optical and coax links, if they have them. None will ouput the lossless Dolby or DTS formats over the digital links.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

I think you answered my question but just in case:
I did a terrible job describing it! My bad! I want a blu ray player that decodes Dolby Digital (DD) through its optical or coax ports until next year when I can swing the SSP upgrade.
1. I don't understand why I don't get DD decoding from my Blue-ray player's optical output. (BTW: no coax out)
* I do get DPL 2x
2. I DO get DD* through the optical & coax outputs from my DVD player.
* & DPL 2x etc
3. My SSP doesn't have HDMI inputs/processing. My TV does. I settle for component video quality from my DVD player for the DD decoding.

You will not get the HD Audio over Toslink or Coax. You will get stripped down Dolby Digital/DTS.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

...will get stripped down Dolby Digital/DTS.
I'll settle for that until next spring (RSP-1069!) Oh well, thanks for taking time to explain it.
