Jerry j12 was kind enough to give me a technics sldd2 tt in perfect shape, i had a audio technica at92e cart., brand new.

George daniel gave me some general advice to upgrade cartridges before tts, generally speaking, not specifically about mine.

Is this turntable worth setting up with better cart., app.3-400 bucks, or am i better to go the other route, buying the rega starter tt and cart., set up by audio alternatives, a high end audio shop in atlanta, for roughly the same money.

I sorta feel like i know the answer, but want to know the straight from experienced guys.

Really looking forward to getting more from all my vinyl.

Thanks guys.

The turntable you have now is very low end. I would go with a used higher end table. Some people don't like buying used but I've had tremendous success with used tables. If you do buy new, a Rega or Pro-ject starter table will be considerably better than what you have now. The cartridge you have now is not too bad though. Good luck with your journey!

I will jump in a little deeper when I get home, but the core of it is that the table you have should be replaced, along with the cartridge IMHO. Rega is good, but there are better out there if you like used. My Yammi PX-3 is superb, and the Sumiko BPS EvoIII is a damn good match for it. PM me your budget, and I will help you spend it.:cool:

Thanks guys, pretty much what i thought.

To clear up, the rega will be new, but their starter unit.

Have not seen any used tt for sale here in a while, but would consider a well recommended unit.
