I just joined the site and looking for opinion on speaker set up. I need to add 4 speakers to my rears, so left right and surround sound back. I have right now rti a9 for front, csi 6 for center and i want to run 4 rti a5 for the rears. I have looked at the rti a3 but considering i also would have to purchase stands for them. can anyone chime in and give me their opinion thanks

Not really seeing a downside assuming a) they're positioned where they should be / you have space and b) you have enough power for 'em. Sounds like a killer system!
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

    KEF Q900s / MIT Shotgun S3 / MIT CVT2 ICs | KEF Q600C | Polk FXi5 | BJC Wire | Signal / AQ ICs | Shunyata / Pangea PCs | Pioneer Elite SC 57 | Parasound NC2100 Pre | NAD M25 | Marantz SA8001 | Schiit Gungnir DAC | SB Touch

    2 Channel:

I would defiantly go fxi's for the side surrounds. I don't know how they would do as rears though.

I prefer the fxi for my rears unlike many here .Either way they sound great for HT as they fill the room with great ambiance during a movie making it really hard to pin point them .i think the fxi should be given serious consideration if you really want the theater experience

I really miss my fxi speakers and even though I have a pair of Martin Logan matinee's for surrounds (msrp of $1599) I really dont think the served as well as my beloved fxi did for surround sound duty

i had a pair of fxi's however the fell off the wall and cracked very very bad! the issue with the fxi's is 7.1, with the surround sound back do you run them in di pole or bi bole? all the blogs can't really anser that. Everyone i talk to says just get 4 rti a3 but had speaker stand money in for good quality stands 550-560 speakers and stands for one pair. I can get rti a5's for about 256 per speaker. I am running a pioneer sc-37 reciever so i have a true 140 x 7 system so power isn't and issue. I wish polk would develope a center with 4 woofers like the klipsch rc-64. I tried one with the rti a9's and it sucked.

This second question is for mole. Have you seen any issues with your sc-35 running the lsi's on a 4om load?

I'm sure the system you described is going to be fine. I think it would be ideal if you have the space to run all those speakers. I'm sure you had a amp for the RTi A9's. 2 or 3 channel.

    Center: Polk CSI A6
    Rears: Polk RTi A7
    Receiver: Pioneer Elite SC-35 (140 watts x 7)

Sub: Polk DSW PRO 500 (10 inch, 200 Watt)

Shouldnt your rear surrounds be a couple feet above your ear? That is how I have been told to run them. The RTI A3's would be fine as surrounds and back surrounds. They are a directional speaker though. They have to be pointed at you. Where the FXI's shine is the fact that have a tweeter on both sides. So sound comes out of both sides and it makes the speaker location harder to detect by ear.

If you want 4 woofer center channel why not just run dual CSI A6's?

you can't do dual csi a6's you would have to mount one above and below the tv only way possible. so i ordered the rti a5's at 258 each ill let you guys know how they sound. i have to say the fxi's are a great speaker to have for a 5.1 i just dont know how they would work in a 7.1.

for srter i am not currently running an additional amp for the rti a9's. i have thought about it for additional power but id have to re calibrate for home theater so they dont over power the center. They must really crank with a 200 watt 8ohm amp

You would want at least a good 3 channel amp. That way the front 3 are powerd from the same source. Then let the Pioneer run the rear and side surrounds. Or just go all in and get a Sunfire Signature 400x7 channel amp. LOL.

hey guys thanks for all the info, the 4 rti a5's really work great for surrounds. After moving them around making sure they were direct right, it sounds great. transformers dark side of the moon blu ray sounded amazing, you could hear the smallest clank, ect...
