Aquarium Hobbyists

I am (still) house hunting, and one of my old hobbies I've given some thought to is putting together an aquarium. But I have concerns about rocking a big subwoofer and how that might affect the fish...Come to think of it, ANY pets for that matter.

Any thoughts?

I never had my aquarium in the same room as the subs, so don't really know, but fish had no problems in the adjacent room. Now my 75-gallon is upstairs, right above the theater room, and fish seem to be fine.

I kick the dog out of the room when I wanna rock out. He never seems to mind the music but I feel better that way. I'm not so sure about fish, I'm sure they'd feel the vibrations though.

When the first hard bass hits they go nuts. Have some one hit play while you watch the aquarium.

I've got a 55 and a 135 and they don't seem to care about anything except eating or grabassing with each other.

When I CRANKED the sda's only one fish used to act out. He'd swim up to the forward pane of glass and open his mouth wide like a bass and force water forward with enough force to cause my substrate (pool filter sand) to be displaced as would be snow by a snowblower. None of the other fish seemed to act differently. It could all have been coincidence, as I've seen my biggun' demonstrate the same behavior with the music not playing. Basically, he did it more while, rather than not.

Other pets do not seem to mind it at all...

2 dogs and 2 cats can leave the room if they want - african grey parrot does not mind it at all, (he sits next to my fish tank and can see the TV - watches it often). Small animals are upstairs (guinea pig and bearded dragon)but they have not acted any differently before or after a movie....

'Twas the biggun' frontosa I mentioned in the other thread you started. He seemed to become quite IRATE, though no others seemed phased.

I haven't listened to my system in like a friggin' year. Kids have taken over my 2 channel system in the livingroom because that's where they use the 65" rptv on a daily basis. Fish are probably thankful for that.

My 90gal is about 6 feet from my SVS and is not a problem. I have a fish room in the basement (underneath the SVS) and they are not affect at all.
