Hey guys, so i just got a pair of polk audio monitor 40 series II speakers, and i love them. But currently i have this small 100 w receiver that isnt even working anymore. So im looking to get something that can really power these babies. I got the speakers for around 150, so im looking to spend around the same maybe a little less for a receiver, if possible. So like 100-150, but i dont really know much about this stuff, so im here asking for some help/advice on what i should get =]

Don't worry about the advertised watts, 90% are BS anyways. It plays a small factor, but not much. I'd look at s/n ratio, weight, harmonic distortion, current, advertised watts vs actual watts with all channels driven. The brand also plays a big factor into the sound, every brand sound different. Features are important as well, do u need 3d, hdmi, video upconversion, ipod control, zones 2 or 3, setup mic etc. Not trying to overwhelm you but a lot of people get blinded by how many watts and end up with a receiver that sounds like crap.

ok post what exactly your found on ebay. Just because it says 500w does not mean you get that. If its a 5.1 thats 500watts split between 5 channels and even THEN youll never get 100wpc, youd be lucky to hit 40wpc.

Where exactly are you located at? Im actually selling a vsx-1020k thats less then 9 months old, if your interested I could give you a decent deal on it. And that way youll have a NEWer receiver that will actually give you decent sound and have a lot of the bells and whistles

I agree with Dskip...a cheap Sherwood 2 channel can be had for less than 100 new. Should drive them fine if you're on a budget.

If you can afford a bit more. Check out a Harman Kardon HK 3390 for a little over 200.

Or an Onkyo TX-8555. Both of these have plenty of power for a set of M-40s!

You'd be better off with the HK or the Onkyo...better sound and sub-outs so you can punch up the bass. Everything above is 2 or 2.1 channel only. No HT!

Check out Amazon for these or do a search.

    Welcome to Club Polk!

    Good Luck!

Ok, it might not be great but it's around 200 at Radio Shack.

They sell a Yamaha Home theater receiver for that price.

    It's a starter.

    Good luck.

FWIW, the xx5 series is highly regarded as having a great amp section. I'll disagree with everyones sugestions so far though, I think this is a job for craigslist! Have you tried CL yet kobyjd? In your price range you might be suprised with what you find, where are you located?
