I know a better quality DAC will improve sound quality, but I wanted to why/how it improves the sound quality over using analog to analog(RCA from source to amp). I think my dvd player will sound better if I connect the optical cable to my dac and then out to my amp vs dvd rca straight to amp. In that scenario why would the DAC be the better option?
Setup:

2 Channel: Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand, T+A P 1230R, Primare SPA21, Oppo BDP-105
PC: Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand, Cambridge Azure 650A v2 , Peachtree iDAC, Denon DVD-3800BDCI

When you are using analog out from your DVD player to your preamp, you are using the DACs in the DVD player. So what you are really saying is your external DAC is better than your DVD player's audio DACs.

I see thanks. I should've known that. I for some reason was thinking digital referred to the interface and not the media.
