A Bone to Pick, A Hand to Shake

Hey guys and gals.
I'm fairly new to this forum, been doing the whole home theater thing for a few years now (least the correct way). Im by FAR not the head authority when it comes to AV, and I've always been one to listen and try to absorb as much info as I can on the subject.
My big beef right this second is the way certain people (not on the polk forum) handle themselves with people who might ask questions that, THEY obviously know the answer too, but others may not. Or the way they handle a simple answer in the wrong manner. Talking down to anyone is a bad idea, on here or in real life. I know the whole hiding behind a computer monitor gives people the illusion of being the tough guy; which in an on of itself is a bad thing.
Even not asking simple questions, when I or someone else brings up a certain concern with my gear; something that is happening that I cant put my finger on. Then I ask if anyone else is having the same issue, it makes it that much worse to see people, who do have the experience and the know how, to berate you for "not being one of them" and KNOWING better.
My experience with the polk forum, even the little bitchings back and fourth Ive done with some members, Ive always left feeling glad I talked to you guys. I've never been steered in the wrong direction here, and even when Ive had to eat a piece of humble pie, I take a big bite and say thank you. Ive gotten some great advice on here, and even walked away feeling like Ive learned a thing or two on how to handle this whole AV thing the right way. I'm just happy that I have somewhere to come, where i can potentionally ask a stupid question, and come away knowing I was told, with a helping hand, the correct way to do something.
Im happy to be apart of this community
p.s. Congrats on the forum design, I can imagine all the work that went into transfering everything over. Good luck with the move

I think the generic response to posts like this will be "man up,grow a pair".
Is this the kind of thing you're refering to?If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money. -
There will always be people on the web and in person who will be condescending in the guise of being helpful. Once you realize who they are, you know to avoid them in the future. The ignore button is definately your friend.
The majority of us here do our best to be helpful, give good advice, and have fun while doing so.
We all have to start somewhere, and it's better to ask a question than not, especially if it saves you some money in the long run of upgraditis!
So have fun, continue asking questions, and pay it forward to other newbies when they have a question that you know the answer

This thread gives me the mental image of a fat kit whacking a hornets nest with a stick. You know it's going to be a disaster but the real shame is he ain't gonna be fast enough to get away before he gets stung.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I act tough on the internet because in real life you might hit me. And that could hurt.Serendipity wrote:If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it!
