OK guys... this may sound stupid, but hear me out.

I am currently running my new SC-37 Pioneer Elite as a pre with a Sunfire Cinema Grand sig 425/5. I have my Yamaha PX-3 connected to the Pioneer rather than my usual Sunfire Classic Preamp.

I accidentally switched last night from the usual stereo mode for playback to the Neural Surround mode, and I was blown AWAY at how damn good it sounds! I had never thought about ever running my LP's into 5 channels, but the effect is simply amazing. I have tried it with several records now and each time, I hear things in a sound field that is immense, detailed and lifelike. I am so thrilled by the options the big SC gives me that I may never run the Classic pre again The sound is THAT GOOD!

I will get my tube amps set up with the Sunfire first before making the call to part with it, but every day I become more impressed with the Pioneer and it's capabilities.

I don't know what "Neural Surround mode" is, but I sometimes run music in the HT in "Multi-stereo" mode from my pre/pro, and I have to admit it has produced positive results. I did realize over time that it depends on how the rear speakers are positioned, and where I sit, but when things are aligned it does sound great.

I think this should teach us not to be set in our ways, and understand that there is more than one way to get great sound from your gear.

The real benefit is that it allows variety in operation, since you can always go back to plain vanilla stereo.

See if it still sounds good after you live with it awhile. Sometimes when you hear something that you're not familiar with, it's nice at first, then when the new wears off it's not as good as you thought. This happens to me damn near every time I tweak my speaker positioning. Just a thought from my warped mind!!
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

The THX Neural Surround IS awsome. I will listen to CDs and even the radio in that mode now and then. Ext Stereo is another fine function on Elites
