Im thinkin im ready to unload much of my assemblage of speakers, put some money with the proceeds, and get one special set to live with for a long time.
Looking for personal experiences with a couple diff. makes and models for reccomendations.
Love Love Love the sound from a pair of ragged maggie smgas that i recently bought off cl. that are badly damaged by time and the elements.
Very nice lady at the comp. said for 5-900 roughly, they could refurb these guys.
Or, for 50 per speaker, they would sell me kits to redo wires myself.
Looking at attached pic hopefully will show how daunting this seems.
Btw, I would be buying a second psw10, and a better preamp so i could have a sub for each maggie,
I think, for the money, that little guy is an excellent way to make up for the maggie low end shortcomings.
Again, your opinions on this are welcome.
The white spots up and down the wires are corrosion, so just regluing the ends back on, and replacing the tiny green treble wires, which are actually broken in spots, would only buy some time, not be a real fix.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
If you have done either, let me know your opinions

Why not get a pair of MMG's? You can find a good used pair for $300ish, or a new one for $500ish._________________________________________________

Ricardo is absolutely right. I love my little MMG's, and they were 599 shipped when i grabbed mine directly from Magnepan. What is the production date on those btw?The Gear... forgot to mention this option, she told me 628 with shipping.
although smaller, If they are anything near these old guys, i would do it in a heartbeat.
Dont see a date on sticker, but I believe early 90s.
Also, the other speaks i am considering, are some higher model kefs, simply because of astounding quality of overall sound from my 20 dollar q60s, maybe some used lsi floor standers, or, if within price range, possibly thiels or vandersteen, although i have yet to hear these, i will soon.
Remember, this is going to be, for me, probably once in a lifetime deal, so im going to take time and audition some gear, tough job, but somebody, blah, blah, blah.
If i need to spend 12-1500 on speaks, better pre, and probably a rega tt, thats a chunk for us on audio, but im ready to settle down with some quality.humpty dumpty was pushed -
If I'm reading this post correctly (I'm getting drunk at the mo for ufc tonight with friends lol) You are looking on some recommendations for a new set of speakers and you love maggies?
I say why not try a pair of Martin logans in your home ? You can get a grait deal on a piar of ML source new with a 5 yr warranty for $1200 or electromotion for $1600 or a pair of vista $2400 or used vantage $2400
All of these speakers throw off a huge soundstage and have the woffers to go with the panels and are way fater than maggies but the downside is your going to require a faster sub maybe somthing sealed and musical
Ever since I got logans I am amazed by the sound that comes from them as its so much more precise and realistic than normal cone speakers ...go try some out if you have not heard them before and best to stay away from used offerings as you dont know what they have done to the panels -
My room is 10 x13; the MMG's with two micropro 3000 are perfect; you don't need bigger speakers._________________________________________________

that is something i pondered.
the price is a factor, knowing im spending app.500 for a real tt, and seriously thinkin about a preamp upgrade.
Also, while i have heard many people who loved their mls, i have been influenced by, would reverence or devotion be the right words that maggie owners have.
I stopped by best buy and had to fire up some maggies myself in the listening room because of lack of concern from employees.
Im tellin you they can sense i dont have money.
I remember the guitar was impressive.
I really think the fact one more sub purchase along with the maggies will be all i have to make might sway me.
I cant overemphasize what those old busted maggies did to me.
even with distant vocals due to damaged wires, and lack of bass.humpty dumpty was pushed -
I have heard martin logans just dont perform their best until well powdered.
(joking)
Wish i could still join you with the brewskys, prescriptions i take no likey.humpty dumpty was pushed -
I think in the past that statement was very true but not anymore with the new breed as they can sound great (not their best) with a very low power avr .The panels on these now radiate double what the old ones did so if you saw a huge pair of logans from the 90's you get that same sound with half the size of panel and the woofer integration is generations ahead of the oldies .So yes ML will sound even better with the more power and better gear that goes with them but still they will sound great regardless .The low volume clarity is what does it for me as I cant always crank them high so I still get all the sound with just a few watts
