Google's top page today :-)

I was pleased, surprised, and amused to see that Google's splash page today celebrates the 118th birthday of Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi. You all, of course (ahem) recall that he elucidated the structure of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) isolated from... paprika (he was Hungarian, after all!).

Vitami C is the stuff in citrus and some other sources that is essential to prevent scurvy (thus were English sailors known far and wide as limeys for their ration of citrus to prevent them from becoming... scurvy dogs [arrrrrr...]). Needless to say, this guy's like a rock star from the perspective of folks in my line of work... :-)

I, hate to admit it, but as soon as I saw the oranges...my mind turned to Vit C and immediately to Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, who I learned about from another Laureate--Dr. Linus Pauling.
