Burn in/Image retention

I know this is mainly an audio forum but alot of you guys always deal with high end tvs as well so here goes...

Watched xmen first class tonight, good movie btw, and during one of the loading screens the tv went mostly gray. When it did this I noticed a faint, almost indistinguishable, burn in. it looked like it was bits and pieces of the espn ticker at the bottom of the screen. I only noticed it in the bottom left and right corners.

I thought I was very careful for the first month to not leave that on the screen for more than 20 min or so at a time without changing the channel for a few minutes as I was conscious of this possibility. I guess I wasnt diligent enough with my first plasma. I watched the entire movie to see if I could notice it again, but only in those gray/light black screens it was visible, thank god.

I guess my question is if anyone has any first hand knowledge of this with their sets or any way to reverse it.

I know its a long shot but thanks for any and all advice in advance.

I notice I get one when I listen to Pandora with my Onkyo. There is a white bar where the killo bit rate is. I can see a faint ghosting. I havent had a perminant burn in. Have you tried any of the built in features to remove it. There should be an Orbitor. It slightly shifts the picture around. That way a static image isnt in the exact same place.

I have a color wash too. It will light the tv up with different color blocks. The blocks move across the screen. This lights up all the differnt pixels a different color.

Then there is a white wash. It lights the screen up a bright white. My manual says not to use this very much. It must be hard on the tv.

Another thing you can try is set the tv to cable or antena. Then turn it to a channel that doesnt come in. That way you just have snow. Leave the tv on for several hrs. Maybe set the sleep timer before you go to bed.

you can but it is difficult and you will need a reverse image picture with the logo black and eveything else white and let it burn in.

Sounds like you never took it out of torch mode (lower contrast and brightness)

I posted this several times, burn to DVD or CD. Play it on the BD player and the image burn should disappear no problems. If you can't find the file, pm me an address and I will email it for you to burn.

I've had my Panasonic 46" Plasma for about 5yrs. and when the screen is gray I can see just a faint outline of the 4X3 screen size. It's not visible when there is a picture on the screen and the colors or overall image quality are not affected. I didn't notice it until I got a Pioneer Elite receiver that takes a few seconds for the picture to be displayed.

There is a video out there that plays color screens over and over. I have had good results with it.
Do a google search about plasma break in video, hopefully is still around

I have the same problem whenever I watch a lot of ESPN, usually during football season. The problem is they leave the logo and ticker up during commercials, so your TV never gets a break from it. Sometimes it takes a few days for my image to go away entirely, but it always does.
