Not sure whether the dump deities smiled... or smirked

... but, for better or worse, yesterday my favorite vintage emporium turned up this stout but (at best) controversial early-1970s pair...
(I cleaned 'em up a bit for this photo... but that's all I've done so far).
The D-150 (75 wpc) doesn't have such a bad reputation - indeed, It and/or its peers (D-75, D-300) are still available today from Crown.
The IC-150, on the other hand, is widely (although, oddly, not universally) held to be the worst sound preamp ever sold.

The name "Crown" just has no value for me anymore...
I suppose in an outhouse rig they would be ok, provided some Bose 101's were involved somehow. I don't thing they are even garage rig certified. The Gear... That's nothing but cool.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Note the disparity of opinions :-)
Crown electronics have that effect on folks.
Too bad there wasn't a Crown reel to reel in the box with 'em... :-(
I guess when it is all said and done the amp is probably not awful. The preamp has a terrible reputation... but I haven't heard one for many years.
It's hard to say whether either piece works... but it'll be interesting to find out.
The box they were in had some other goodies (which is the reason I lugged it home in the first place)... a Discwasher, a Nakamichi head demagnetizer (in its box) and a bunch of extension and patch cords. So I am still ahead of the game... plus, the dump still maintains a generous return policy :-)
