Coffee spills on vintage woofers?

I was wondering if anyone knew what effect minor coffee spills/stains would have on a vintage Stiff paper woofer..let's say 30 years old?

Would it affect the general integrity of the cone or its sound if the spill was years old? Am eyeing a pair of speakers with some minor stains on one woofer.

Is there a way to clean that?

Thanks!

Pour a little cream and sprinkle a little sugar and it should be just fine

Sorry, but I don't know. If this was done a long time ago and you see no adverse affects, then it's probably fine. If it was going to cause an issue, I'd think you'd notice it by now.

Are we sure it's coffee ??

I don't think it would hurt much if it happened just once and dried quickly. Long-term or repeated soaking would eventually weaken the fibers and could affect the glue joint, but one short-term episode should not be a problem.

    How do the speakers sound?

P.S.: I do not think I would try to clean it as that would probably do more harm than good.

Good one, Brock. I usually do take a pinch of sugar and some cream!

I haven't heard these yet. Probably in the next couple of days. The owner claims they're fine and identifies the spill as coffee. Just a few scattered spots on one woofer (near the outer woofer, closer to the surround) and its grill! Probably years ago and dried now.

    Thanks!

Not to be too blunt, sometimes the woofer gets the brunt of the worst pets have to offer. That's why I asked.

No problem there. Something to think about for sure, but the guy seems OK. Not sure how I would distinguish a pet accident from coffee stains. lol

I'm in the coffee business but don't know the exact affect of coffee and its properties on paper woofers. I would say if it was just a spill and dried it would be fine. you never know though.

    decaf or regular?

decaf should be fine but the regular may effect the lows

It's an old ADS-type with the Stifflite woofers. So untreated surface. They're not like the Polk 'doped' drivers?

One time spill won't hurt. Soaking might but these cones are very durable. I would want to see for myself before I bought them. Which "old" ADS speaker is it?
