I thought I would listen to listen to my Rush Vapor Trails today, since I was in the mood for some Rush today, my god I now know what they mean about the so called loud wars I couldnt stand it, after the fifth track that being The Stars look Down, I couldnt take anymore, shame hopefully this gets remastered and toned down a bit. I also own the remastered Queensryche Operation Mindcrime same thing sounds awful the cassette I own of that sounds better, another one that sounds god awful is Joe Bonamasa's Black Rock. I was wondering what purchases any of you fellow polkies have made original or remastered that you reget because of the in your face compressed recordings.

While it might not be the worst, I have to vote for Lady Gaga's latest, Born This Way.

Her first two CDs are some of the best sounding CDs around, and I expected the latest to be at the same level of quality sound. That is why it is really disappointing. Another thing is it is over 60 minutes in length, which is great when you consider most pop/rock CDs are around 40 minutes. Yet, because it sounds so bad I cannot listen to it.

Without doubt, K.D. Lang's "Angel With A Lariat"

I love the music itself, but it's a HORRIBLE recording. Compressed to hell & distortion galore!

All her music on cd sounds aweful. The Fame however, on vinyl, is actually enjoyable.

ALL of the early Van Halen releases. Besides compression, some of the flattest stages I have ever heard. Like they're hanging on the bloody wall.

Do you have the 1987 Sire 25441-2? I don't think it's that bad, 'Turn Me Round' has some compression, but it was mastered for radio play and this was before the big compression wars. 'Three Cigarettes in a Ashtray' has a lovely open sound.

I've been looking for an Lp copy for years...VHTF in the US.

Alot of new pop releases are godawfull bad, too many to list, I traded most away after copying them to cassette and RtR, which made many sound tollerable. Even my beloved latest Springsteen's sound crappy :frown:

I third the Metallica Death Magnetic, And Load, And Reload and Saint Anger.

Pretty much anything after the Black album and that was borderline.

Anything from U2 after the album with Sunday Bloody Sunday is crap.

    Any Rush from Presto on.

Pretty Much any album recorded after 1990.

"Pretty much any album recorded after 1990" is obviously a gross over-generalization and inaccurate. There have been LOTS of albums mastered in the last 20 years that are great.

Yes it was an over-generalization and inaccurate.
