stop lights are out, most of the gas stations are without power and cars are running out of gas.

Welcome to the new norm. Nobody is building new plants.
And the new market rules mean it's more in their interest
to have shortages, which drives up the prices of electricity.
Funny how laws meant to LOWER prices aren't working that way.

    Forget it man, it's Chinatown.

As someone cleverer than me said on Twitter : "so the entire US/Mexican border between San Diego and Yuma is without power and lights? What could go wrong?"
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Whats weird is our power went out for an hour at around 12:45AM CST this morning. There was a strong surge before it. Some people tell me as they come into the office this morning that some of their electronics wont turn on... I haven't gotten around to checking mine. But I do know that everything minus my AVR and TV restarted when the power came back up.

    I'm 'back on-line' this morning.

Power went out about 3:30pm yesterday - I was in downtown San Diego on jury duty and was waiting for the Express bus back to my neighborhood.

It was a mess getting out of downtown with all the traffic lights out- major conjestion.

And since everyone was told to or decided to go home at the same time alot of the surface streets were clogged and the freeways as well.

Which was a dumb idea if you didn't have a full tank of gas as the gas stations were down too - no electricity means no pumps and so...no gas.

I saw a number of cars pulled off to the side of the road and drivers walking - probably because they ran out of gas.

Power came on...oddly....for us....about 3:30am. Still assessing the food in the fridge and freezer. And since all the grocery stores were affected too - not sure how long we may have to wait for them to get fresh stock in for stuff like milk, eggs, etc

I knew our in-laws up the coast were not affected so we had an 'out' if it lasted longer, but it was a bit sobering to know just what the long term effects would be for prolonged outages.

I did unplug all my gear - so I've a couple a things to get back on line.
