Friends New Reciever

Hey,
I was called by a friend to hook up his new receiver the other night. I didn't go over. See he already had a reciever so all he had to do was disconnect the old one, and connect the new one.
Besides I think a person should know how to hook up his or her own equipment. It wasn't like he couldn't do it. he just wanted to be lazy and let my climb around behind his stuff fishing wires. I wasn't in the mood to be crawling around on the floor. Was I wrong? Should I be feeling guilty?

Helping out is one thing, doing it all is another. What's he gonna do, call you everytime he wants to change CD's? Don't feel guilty, but do be patient and share your knowledge.

He should do his own hook ups. like you said. it's his gear. Asking for help or advice is one thing.. but expecting you to jump and drop everything and go over and hook up while he sits back and has a beer. is totally wrong.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

If I were in your situation, and he just sat back while you did the work..I'd wire everything into opposite channels. Left to right and right to left. Then duck out real quick and let him figure it out. heh.Two Channel Main

Thanks Guys,
As you can see I was feeling a little guilty for not helping him. This is a update. I talked to his wife the other day. She said he had it hooked up. But was mad because his daughter went in and messed with something and the sound was "messed up" I saw him briefly and asked if he had everything squared away. He said " his TV had gone out" He got his TV after I got both of mine,
which are both playing fine. So I don't know.JmasterJ Polk to the Death -
The only people that get "carte blanc" treatment from me is family. As long as I have the time...and it is on MY time, family gets all the free electronic (cpu,tv,a/v) "consultation/installation" that they want. But family usually pitches in with watching my kids, so it is the least I could do.
As for friends, well let's just say they get help also, but a trade needs to take place too. I scratch your back, you scratch my back.
Make sure your friend has not done anything "big" for you lately. He may be expecting that type of treatment.
It sounds like the guy has done this to you before so I hear where you are coming from. I had a few people try that with me....did not get very far. -

I think i've said this before a long time ago.. but wouldn't it have been cool when you were in high school there was a class for electronics? The class would teach you about electricity, different components, how they work, the history of sound, the history of stereo, and then how to hook all this crap up the right way?
Electronics 101 if you will. With the advanced students being able to wire a 7.1 HT system in under three hours. and those students that fail the class have detention after school where they are forced to be locked in a room with a all Bose system for two hours a day.
I don't wish THAT on anyone.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
