The Eagles-Hotel California SACD

My copy arrived this morning, I guess CDJapan knew it was my birthday.

I've had the DCC issue for years, always enjoyed it, but this SACD is definitely better. It's smoother, more natural, has greater detail with extended decay and kick a$$ bass.

Highly recommended!

I got the Deep Purple-Machine Head SACD as well, but haven't listened to it yet. From what I understand, it's a winner too.

Kick out the jams. They should have a label on Machine Head requiring that it be played loudly.

About Machine Head...I recently purchased the AF Redbook copy, but it has a problem playing in my main rig, chatters like crazy. AF had me sent it back to them, so that they could send it back to the factory for inspection. Still waiting to hear back. Therefore, I am unable to compare the CD vs. the SACD. That said, the SACD sounds pretty good, but I'm not as impressed with the overall sound quality as I am with Hotel California. I'm sure that orignal tapes have more to do with that than the mastering. One thing I did notice on the SACD is that "Lazy" is louder and doesn't sound as good as the rest of the songs. They also included a "B" side bonus song on the SACD, which is a blues number and is completely out of place.

Note the record companies, I HATE bonus songs....just give me the original album. If you want to include bonus material, put it on a separate disc.

In Rock, Machine Head, Burn, Stormbringer, classic Deep Purple, Blackmore was one of the best, I even liked the Mach whatever versions when Tommy Bolin jumped on Board and filled in for Mr Blackmore. Hotel California is great I bet it will sound good in that format, a little to Joe Walshy and not enough Don Felder but still great.

. . . and it didn't with Deep Purple. Blackmore gets in some serious licks on some of his Rainbow cuts too . . .

It's fantastic all of these classic rock albums are be put out in high quality CD, SACD and 180 gram LP formats.

Yes. Assuming they have not been "remastered". That has become an euphemism for "the music has been highly compressed to sound louder". Which means it sounds worse on any gear costing more than $15. :frown:
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.
