Snap! Crackle! Pop!

Getting back into vinyl & just picked up a low use Pro-ject Debut 3 off Agon for a good price. Currently using an Audio Technica AT6012 for cleaning purposes. The issue is this. Records from my old collection which I've owned since new, & have taken care of, sound great with respect to pops & background noise. However, some of the used vinyl I've picked up, not so much. After cleaning with the AT brush they look clean & shiny, but... Is the dirt & dust on these hopelessly ground into them or will a Spin Clean make a significant improvement? Another choice I have would be the local mom & pop store which will clean them with a record cleaning machine for a fee. Trying to keep the cost down, so a Spin Clean is about as much as I would consider spending.

Thanks.

I've been using Groovy for years, the guy at the local used record store turned me on to it, and damn if it isn't the best without buying a VPI machine. http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=4md7kdtrcq

    CD Exchange - http://www.cdexchangemusic.com

Been in business for 20+ years. They started out as a small one room shop above a local hi-fi store(Phoenix Hi-Fi). Initially it was a place to buy & sell used CDs. They have expanded over the years, but are still a pretty small operation. I've been going there since I was a teenager when they first opened up.

Permit me a moment of ignorance here. Let us take a classical station in a major city, let's say NYC. And let us recall them playing some vinyl, let us assume that they have TOTL equipment and also, perhaps, a record cleaning machine or options. How many of you remember 'still' hearing more than a modicum of 'snap, crackle and pop' on such a station when LPs are the medium? I do. Am I the only one?

I do! Quite well, I used to live in NYC, and the local UofA classical station here in Tucson still plays some Lps on certain shows. I think it's more noticable during the quiet passages (obviously ). Just the same as it is in my system at home. But, I'm one of those folks who really doesn't notice after a short time if the pops are at a low level, if it's at a obtrusive level to me and can't be cleaned up it does annoy me :frown:

And on some pieces it adds a bit of dare I say it? Nostalgia to the experience.

 Especially through a vintage Marantz phono section

All the time, especially more obscure Jazz and Classical stuff. I think a little snap crackle pop adds character to the music in some cases.

By the way, I have used the wood glue method and it works quite well for cleaning out most of the crap in the grooves.

Thanks Dave.I have seen them listed on the Record store day site but wasn't sure by the name how serious they were about vinyl.
I will be in Mohnton in a month for the NHRA Nationals and will be sure to check them out.

If I can't get an LP clean with scrubbing and a vacuum, I'll run a hand held steamer over it. If the grooves are already damaged, nothing will save it.
