I have an opportunity to purchase a pair of RTA 12B/C ? Am not sure exactly which They have the tweeter mounted externally in the middle of the top of the cabinet. How can I tell the difference and what is a reasonable price range? Are there any specifics I should look for. Currently the guy is asking $100. It is roughly an hour drive to pick them up so the trip will cost me roughly another $60.

Go get them! I paid $120 for my RTA12C's and they are remarkable speakers. I think both the B and C variations used the SL2000 tweeter. Most will tell you to upgrade to the RD0194 tweeter which you can get from Polk but it's not necessary. Mine have the SL2000 and while they are a little bright, I can certainly live with them...for now.

If they have peerless tweet and are in good condition it is a hard speaker to beat for the money.

If all the mid woofers and tweeters work, that's a very good price!

And the crossovers are easy to upgrade to take them to a higher level of performance

going tonight to look and most likely purchase them. No pics. Guy says grilles are good and cabinets are good except a spot towards the back of one where laminate is starting to peel. I'm banking on being able to glue it back down.

Ok I picked these up I was a little disappointed in them cosmetically (I'd give them a 4 out of 10) but I had already driven an hour and a half to get there and hated to have a wasted trip. It would have been different if it had only been a half hour. All drivers seem to work fine. These are old and have the Peerless tweets. The labels say RT12B. I couldn't tell much about sound quality as the guy had them on top of a pair of JBL cabinets with 15 inch drivers that were on top of some tables. The tweets were not far from the ceiling. No wonder he was ready to get rid of them. Anyway, functionally they seem good and I can work on the cosmetics, but these will never be near perfect unless I re-laminate. Does anyone own a pair of these that can send pictures in detail of the top grilles. These are missing. I should be able to build some with the help of some of you guys here and pictures , measurements, and some other details. However I found a set of SDA SRA's about 10 minutes before I left to p[ick these RT12B's up so I am too wrapped up in trying to find out if I want those and maybe making that deal work to even hook the RT12B's up right now. Currently see my other post on the SDA SRS's and please give me input there. I will come back to these and hopefully get some pics, etc to fix them.

This speaker should impress you if working correctly, forget the looks and Listen since you have them. Hopefully got them for cheap.

I am anxious to listen but have to consider the deal on the SRS's right now. The 12's I got have the tweets set differently than the ones in the link you provided thsmith. My tweets are mounted horizontally on a very small baffle, and they have a deflector that angles downward in front of them.

    Should still sound good.

If you have a room big enough for SRs then I would not have bought or even would be looking for 12s.

You need a large room and the equip to drive srs's.

Mine is 15x26x10. Just right for 1c's if you use the 15 foot wall. The 12s should sound great in that room.

SRS owners would have to weigh in if yours is big enough.

Glad you like them. Was over at my repair guys house lastnight and told him you may be contacting him.

Sell me one of your other tube receivers and that should give you some repair bucks:wink:
