2 Channel Preamp

Just picked up a turntable. Looking for a preamp with a phono input. MM only would be fine. No pre/tuner combos please. Also, not interested in anything older than mid 80's vintage. Would like to keep the total cost to a max of $200. Ship to zip would be 19606. Let me know what's lurking in your closets!

    A lot of newer preamps will have a cheapo phono preamp, or no phono preamp at all.

    Don't let that stop you.

    You can get a sweet sounding Audio-Technica PEQ3 outboard phono preamp for around $44 from sites like Needle Doctor (lists for $119) to let you use a line-level preamp input.

    I had/have have many recievers, integrated amps, and preamps with respectable built in phone preamps and the little Audio Technica sounds equal or better than any of them.

    I have an excellent Yamaha CX-830 pre amp with remote that I would be willing to sell for $200. I am in NE Pennsylvania so it might be worth it to drive and pick it up to save shipping. I have the original manual and box for it. The phono selector has MM and MC positions.
    Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
    Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.

    Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp

    I just picked up an Onkyo A-807 integrated 80W/ch that has and excellent phono section for both MM and MC right on the front panel.

    Gets some great reviews, big power transformer and big caps and super heavy.

    Even runs hot so it is worth squat.

    Thanks for the AT phono-pre suggestion. Currently my 2 channel system has the variable out of an Adcom GCD-700 piped straight to the amp, so I am pre-ampless. Figured I'd get more bang for the buck going for a pre-amp with phono section rather than a line stage pre & a phono-pre but would consider it if I can come in under $200.

    The Yamaha looks like a good candidate, but I'll give it a few days to see what else pops up.

    Try to find an Anthem pre1, not sure it has phono stage but might.

    Bump, still looking. I'm expanding my options to include line source pre-amps as well. Supposedly the ART DJ Pre II is a respectable phono-pre for around $45. Considering pairing a line source pre with that as an alternative.

    Hi Dave,
    I have a Superphon Revelation preamp that I purchased just for the phono section. It has 2 additional inputs plus a tape section. PS is in a seperate case. Works well and sounds good. I have been meaning to post it for sale but havent. $125 shipped.

    Heres a pic from my phone. Theres two small scratches on the top. One good scratch on the ps case. Face is very nice though.
