Im thinking about putting 4 pyle pro 18" inch subs 600 watt each in a 50 cubic foot box in the back of a pickup w/ a shell, will those sound ok for a car?
im gonna power them w/ 2 visonik 1300 watt rms bridged into 4 ohms amps, will this work?

i dont know of any 12 cube air space subs....

ok my friend there's a reason that it's named pyle, it's a pyle of shat, and visonic ain't much better. 2nd anything over 12" for a sub is too much cause it is much harder to controll ( I highly doubt that that visonic could controll an 8 let alone an 18) if you realy want something that's gonna kick just get less of a higher quality tell us your price range and we can help you find something that will sound better and get you some respect as well... with pyle and visonic you'll get laughed at harder than you have been here when you're out there trying to sound like you know what you're talking about, probably the only thing you said that didn't sound dumb (not trying to be mean but sometimes the truth hurts) was the part about running at 4 ohm's which will give you better sq than a 2 or 1 ohm loadHemi: (HEM -e) adj. I talked about a 69 VW Bug that I'm gonna buy. Maybe I'll try to figure out how I can get one of those bad **** 18's and a nice Legacy or Pyle amp in there to run it. Wouldn't that be bad ****?
I'd probably pay more for wiring than the car and the system."The Big C" -
lol, just use some yarn, the system will sound the same with the yarn as it would with real cable ;DHemi: (HEM -e) adj. that or take the jacks off your phone line and plug those in

i saw a kid use 4 conductor phone chord (normal phone line) for his rear speakers because it was easier than running new wire -- he's like "it's thick enough, shut up".

dude, again you want to avoid anything over a 12, i wouldn't even go with a 15 if given the choice, they start to get sloppy over 12". that and i have no clue who that brand is, never heard of them and that probably means they're **** especially considering your previous choices. give us a budget and we can give you some real advice, till then hold off on anything and if the 18 doesn't cost at least 200 it's probably crapHemi: (HEM -e) adj. Well im mostly concerned w/ spl over sq and i wanted an 18 because most people dont have them. i just wanted to know if the Eminence Kilomax 18" sub was good. this is the sub

theres a reason no one doesnt have them...whether for sq or spl they suck
it has a paper cone...PAPER
a cloth surround....CLOTH
not the best materials out there especially for a car sub
if you want spl....get some L7 Kickers
-Cody -
I'll agree with Cody and MTX that most subs over a 12 will get sloppy. Some may disagree, but if you get the right 15 they can also produce tight clean bass. Most can't, but a select few can. I've got an Orion H2 15, which I absolutely love. I've even got it in a ported enclosure and it sounds great for that type of enclosure. I will say that I believe it's an $800 driver so that has something to do with it. If you have your heart set on an 18, Adire makes an 18 called the Maelstrom.
http://www.adireaudio.com/mobile_audio/drivers/maelstrom.htm
Personally from what I've seen Adire makes great products. Haven't heard the Maelstrom yet but if you have your heart set on an 18" sub, this is in my opinion the best sub you're gonna get for under $300. Plus you buy it direct from Adire so you get a full warranty. Don't let the cheap Radio Shack looks fool you."The Big C" -
Those aren't really cheap Radio Shack looks. If they had fleckstone paint on the basket, they would look like old dB's. That sub may look flimsy but that is just because it is so large. Looks all business to me.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

adire is - and prolly forever will be - all business. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge

Believe me, I know. I've owned the Tempest, which by the way Nathan would be another good option for you at $150.
Anyway that thing looked and felt flimsy, but when I installed it into my 2.66^3 sealed box, it beat down like you wouldn't believe. At least until I cooked it from running 250 watts over the rating... lol"The Big C" -
well im also considering audio adire brahma 15, im using WinISD Pro and when i look at maximum SPL it says like a max of 122 dbs at 50 hz for the brahma. Is that all that one of them can do? It says like 127 for the eminence kilomax 18".
-
Lemme put it this way to you dude...
Kilomax=crap compared to ANYTHING Adire makes. You'd be much much better off buying the Maelstrom or the Tempest before that thing. The Brahma is an absolute monster. 1600 watts rms with a peak of 4800... You get a Brahma you better throw 1200 watts or better of nice clean power at that thing and you'll probably never want another sub. Don't waste your time with Eminence."The Big C" -
A speaker will perform differently in different enclosures.
If you are going for loud, it would be better to get 3 or 4 smaller subs and a pile of power.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -
dude that krapomax is complete shat. I honestly don't think i've ever seen a weaker looking sub. I agree with the other guys about the adire, i don't have any personal experience with them but i've heard a lot about them and they have a great reputation, another option for an 18 is the planet audio FU18, you can find it at www.planetaudiousa.com but again look into smaller, or if you realy want spl get the MTX RFL154 15" beast, 2000wrms 4000 peak. these subs have made a pretty big impression in the SPL scene. a guy with 2 subs got a spl rating of 159.5 running 4000wrms to each sub and i can't find anymore exact scores atm but they've done pretty well for themselves, the 9500 series from mtx are also a good spl subHemi: (HEM -e) adj. well if anyone knows, approximately how many polk gnx 10's would it take to equal the spl output of a single brahma 15, im just wondering cuz i havent heard too many subs but i own 2 polk gnx 10's and i just wanted to know how they compared to a brahma.
-
Well you can't really compare subs like that as they are completely different. A single Brahma 15 will handle about 3000 watts rms no problem. GNX will handle 400 peak... so correct me if I'm wrong but around 250 rms?
Let me put it to you this way Nathan. Look on the Adire website. I owned a single Tempest sub. I pushed it with the Alpine V-12 1507- 900 watts rms. I had that thing in a sealed enclosure. It metered at 141.2 db. That's really good for a single 15 in a SEALED enclosure. That sub is nowhere near in the league of the Brahma. Not even close.
The surprising thing with the Brahmas is even though they have those huge power ratings, it doesn't take nearly what it says to run them. I know someone who's running a B-15 on a single JBL 1200.1... has been for over a year now I believe. That's a dirty amp and it still sounds awesome. Loud as hell. I believe he metered at around 146 db. That's pretty damn good for a single 15. You put this thing in a ported enclosure with a clean amp... USAmps, Zapco, Tru, Alpine v-12(2 MRD-1000's). Hell... You could get 2 MTX 81000D's from ebay to run that thing for around $600 and you'd be slamming like mad. Of course if you did something like that you'd want a major electrical upgrade in your truck. Even a single Hifonics Brutus BX1500d would give you 1500 watts at one ohm.
Trust me dude, you get that sub, put it in a ported enclosure, throw about 1200-1500 watts of power at it and you're brain will rattle in your head.
Only problem I have with the RFL is it's basically strictly SPL competition. The damn thing comes with replacement parts for after drags. It's really not built for daily driving. Don't quote me on this cuz things may have changed, but they used to only include plans with the sub to build and enclosure to play a single tone, with directions to only play that one tone through the sub or it will ruin it. The 9500's look pimp as hell. Don't have any experience with them so I couldn't tell you anything except they cost an arm and a leg.
One last thing about that Kilomax sub. If I'm not mistaken it's a home audio sub. Don't know if that makes a huge difference to you. Just thought you should know."The Big C" -
LOL YOu must be young and dumb to get on a forum and talk about the Eminence Kilomax 18" sub it looks like a burner on a stove that is a 400 dollar piece of ****. You seem like you don't want to spend very much since you own 2 10" gnx aren't those like 50 bucks each. Go with like 1 12" Brahma and run 2 1200watt jbl amps to it and you will be shoving for like a 1000-1200 and be in one of the lowest competition classes single10-12.
Hit me back@ slickcole18@yahoo.com I am not rally a JBL fan but hey they're cheap
By the way I have a 98ext cab sonoma with 8-10" Polk momos (mm104) wired series parallel into 2 ohms with a 2700 watt directed viper amp. Two 800 watt amps for momo componets(mm6) and for 4-pioneer 4 way 6x9s(ts-6995) with PS2 and a Pioneer flip out TV.Testing

I'd also like to know what you mean by "wired series parallel".

slickcole you amuse me...
Jstas i think what he means by series parallel is that 2 pairs of subs are wired in parallel and the resulting pair of pairs is in series. like taking 2 dvc subs and wiring the vc's in parallel then combining the speakers in series to get the same ohm load of each vc for your total... either that or he has no clue whatsoever what he's talking about... actually i'm thinking that he's clueless cause you can't take 4 4ohm subs and make them a single 2 ohm load... you could get 1,4,or 16 ohms but not 2... i think he has each pair wired to 2 ohms and is running the amp as a 2 ch... who puts an 800w amp to mm6's anyway... maybe he's looking at peak which further shows his need to further study wtf he's doing before sounding like he knows jack squat... that and who in serious car audio goes with 6x9's... and 4ways at that... round speakers can cick the **** of ovals anyday and seperates always come out on top of coax... dude you shoulda just got a 2 way comp set along with a 3 way comp set and called it a day, your styling and sq would be so much better...(3 way comp sets in doors look sweet, go with a triangle pattern...) although if he was seriously interested in sq he woulda run those subs off of something like the usamps 2000x which would give him 500w/sub rms at 4ohms... well that's all for my rant of the day ;D i have too much homework left to do to keep pointing out weakpoints in his system...
p.s. Who here would put solid objects in front of your speakers??? cause that's pretty much what you're doing when you buy a 4way 6x9, you have a huge area of your speaker covered by other speakers, it just doesn't make sense... you might as well buy solid plastic grilles to completely cover the cone, you're killing your lower frequency response man... ok this time i'm done for real ;DHemi: (HEM -e) adj. Mopar in type, V8, hot tempered, native to the United States, carnivorous, eats primarily Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes. Also enjoys smoking a good import now and then to relax. -
i think he means 8 subs - wired like this.
pair of 4 ohm coil subs in series = 8 ohm load = "item 1"
then you've got 4 of item one parallelled together down... so 8/4 = 2 ohms.
however... 8 subs @ 400 - 600 w each off a 2700w amp --- tha'ts like 335 watts each... wow, that sucks.
and directed/viper sub amps are absolute garbate.
bet it sounds real nice with a damping factor of 50 and a slew rate of 5v/us. piece of junk.
for what you paid for that hunk of crap you could have gotten 4 81000d's ($290 each) - which are no 'beauty queens' of amplifiers, but they're certainly better than the viper amps, and you'd have well over double the power (6,000w).
and that's just off teh shelf crap -- i wont even get into "good" amps...The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
