And after getting the web all over you, getting the spider off is pretty hard!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson

Time to take the air duster, flip it upside down and freeze that monster before it takes over the city.

Golden Orb
Throw a grasshopper in the web and watch it spin a net around it and bite it. Cool. Then it will go back and suck the juice out of it.>

I remember once when I was a kid chasing grasshoppers into a field and then suddenly finding myself surrounded by those spiders. No idea how I made it in there without going though any webs, but getting back out wasn't so easy.
Spiders were happy since the group of grasshoppers I was chasing were not as lucky as I was.
Seeing that yellow and black spider and remembering being surrounded still creeps me out..gahhh! -

We had a bunch of those spiders in our garden back home in Corpus Christi...and they were all about those size.
We would put them in jars and put them on another spider web. Sometimes theyd run away from each other, sometimes they'd fight to the death...pretty freakin cool.
I dont mind spiders...snakes on the other hand...

I bet she'll be fine. Worst comes to worst, she'll abandon her web, crawl in a safe crevice somewhere (your house, perhaps:eek:) and make a new web tomorrow.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Living down here for 6 years, I've never seen one of those.
PLENTY of Black Widows though. They seem to like packaged HVAC units for some reason. Usually the compressor or heater section.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
Yech! I hate spiders too! Lot's of Black Widows in Tucson, they're everywhere, I had a couple big females set up a home just inside my front door under a telephone stand , they leave a chemical marker for future females that this is a good spot, if you check every few months after killing one, chances are you'll find another on in the same place. I had a cool 'monkey face'?? spider in Silver City NM a while back, she was so cool looking I couldn't kill her, I fed her flies that I stuned, she got really big, and would actually move around the web when I came outside expecting more fliesThorens TD125MKII, SME3009,Shure V15/ Teac V-8000S, Denon DN-790R cass, Teac 3340 RtR decks, Onix CD2...Sumo Electra Plus pre>SAE A1001 amp>Martin Logan Summit's

We always called those garden spiders because...they were always in our garden! They would always make webs on our tomatoes or in between gladiola stalks. That was in northern Ohio. We used to have tons of them when I was growing up. I don't see as many of them where I live now, but if I go hiking near some wetlands in the area, you will see one every 5 feet or so. They are very beneficial, but they scare the crap out of ya if you don't see them until you're about in their web!!!

Must have known you had a hello Spyder yourself....lol -
My uncle had a very similar, if not exact, spider in his garden a few years back ( in MA no less). It was huge and had the same colors. We were recording it on the camcorder and a bee flew in to his web as we were recording. It took the spider about 6 seconds to run over and completely wrap up that bee. Amazingly fast.
We of course left the spider alone. They are beneficial, as they prey on other bugs. Plus it was gorgeous.
I do not kill spiders, even in my house. If it really is a bother I "catch and release". -
BTW - We went to Costa Rica a couple of years ago and saw plenty of these guys:
You can't appreciate the size from this picture. I saw a couple that were the size of a small dinner plate. Their webs are incredibly strong, we were told NASA is testing the webs for possible uses.
These spiders will set up their webs just outside hummingbird nests. We took a canal ride and saw one waiting for a bird to fly in. The guide actually got out and pulled the web, the entire tree branch bent and the web did not break.
They are called Green Orb spiders. -
Holy crap i have the itches now. I don't hate spiders but something that big has got to go or I will.
-
I feel like something is crawling on me!
