I'm totally baffled on this one. I bought this Yamaha RX-V2700 off the forum here about a year ago. I have finally got the basement set up and hook it up, and it will not produce sound out of the rear channels. After trying for two days I finally gave up and called an 'expert'. After an hour and a $75 bill he concluded it was hard broke, and recommend I take it down to a repair shop.

I took it to the repair shop yesterday and picked it up today, they told me it was fine and all I had to do was set it in the menu. I told him I couldn't change it in the menu and asked if it had tried it himself, and he said it wasn't broke. I took this as he didn't try it at all. So I told him I would go home and try it.

Came home and low and behold after $35 diagnostic still the same problem. I called him back and he said its in the menus, I told him its not and tried to explain again I was in the right menu. He says that it would take 6 hours of bench time to set up this menu, and I would have to bring all of my audio equipment too him, at $46 bucks and hour.

To do that I would need to use one of my leave days too so I could sit there and see him get this thing to work.

Anyways I have posted a video on Youtube showing what I'm trying to do, maybe one of you can help me? Here is the video.

First thing..if you're using 5.1 you should be using the surround channels and not the surround back channels. surround back is for 7.1 playback only. Also why not use the mic to setup your speakers.

Have you tried doing a full reset of the receiver to put it back into the factory settings. That should wipe out any changes that may have been done since it was bought. Reset, make sure your speakers are connected correctly and run that auto setup to see if your speakers are being registered by the receiver. If there's something wrong internally, one would assume that they won't be snesed by the auto setup.

Iagree. Reset everything. Then make sure all the speakers are wired correctly and then that they are plugged into the receiver correctly. If your receiver is 7.1 capable but you are only using 5 speakers (5.1) make sure the surrounds are connected to the surround rear outputs. Try the auto speaker calibration set-up. Do you get sound out of the rears at any time?

I attempted the rest on page 149, still doing the same thing.

When I run the auto calibration it plays the front channels loud the rear speakers and very quit in the the front speakers. However when its done and I the status, it says there are no surround speakers rears or presence speakers. And if I play anything on the PS3 I get nothing from the 3 fronts.

I also thought that maybe it was hard wired backwards inside the AVR and the surround backs where switched with the surround rears, if I switch them it plays the same test sounds. That really tossed me for a loop since both seem to be playing the same information, but the reviver doesn't think anything is there.

What happens when you run YPAO? Do you hear any sound coming from the surrounds during the auto-cal?

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

Dude....if you're using surround back in a 5.1 setup you've connected your system incorrectly....use surround NOT surround back...Surrounds in a proper 5.1 setup are not surround backs but simple surrounds...THX recommends bi-poles. Surround backs are for 7.1 only.

Do you have your front speakers "bi-amped" with the Yamaha? If you use the that option for your fronts, you will not have the capability to run rear surrounds or presence speakers.

You play the test tone for the front, and it comes out of the front AND the back? I think HTguru hit the nail on the head... Your Bi-AMP function is evidently set to ON... See page 136 of your manual. Set Bi-AMP to OFF. Although you're set up in a 7.1 configuration (per your sig block, I'm guessing), your AVR seems to be configured for 5.1 w/ Bi-AMP. This is how you're hearing a test tone from the front and back at the same time. This also explains why you see "NONE" for your surround back channels.

You were correct it was set to Bi-Amp. The the remote stooped working, luckily on the advance setting page pointed out that the unit has to be reset to 1ID. I ran the test and it see's everything, in the right place, right distance right size.

I really want to thank you all. I wasted a 100 bucks and they didn't answer any questions and you all fixed it after 24 hours.

    Thank you all very much.
