So my buddy wants a surround sound system, but is on a tight budget ($500) he was going to just buy a 2 in 1 blu-ray/home theater system. I made the mistake of opening my mouth and advising against it so now I am stuck trying to find him the best solution. The best bang for the buck I think is a Onkyo HTIB compared to an all in 1 he was looking at. Now the kicker, his rear surrounds are pre wired in the dead middle of the ceiling, his wife will NOT let him mount speakers that hang down (of course) so we're limited to in walls for the rear.

I don't know if I can piece something else together that would be better than this setup. I was thinking about maybe just a receiver + the monitor line for the fronts, but then he would still need a sub and might put him over budget. I know Monoprice sells in wall speakers, I like all there cables, but have no idea who makes their speakers and how they would compare.

This is what I came up with. Comes to $425 via amazon.com

Onkyo HT-S3400 5.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver

Polk Audio RC60i In-Ceiling / In-Wall Speakers (Pair, White)

Just to give you an idea of his thought process he currently has a Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1-Channel with "wireless" rear speakers. He is going to move this to his bedroom.

Help me remove my foot from my mouth please! lol
