RTi10's RT12's
Hi All,
Just picked up some cheap RTi10's have a few questions some advice from the Polk gods would be great.
1/ Will my Rotel RB 985 MKII 5 channel amp drive these speakers 100wpc ?
2/ Can I match these RTi10's with my newly rebuilt RT12's thinking of running the RTi10 as fronts the RT12's as rears ?.Currently using RT25i's book shelfs as rears CS245i center and a PSW350 sub.
3/ Can I modify my CS245i centre to match up with the RTi10's ie change tweeter, mod crossover.?I also have a CS245 centre as a spare.
4/If I can run the RT12's as rears what would be the best tweeter to use in the RT12's with the RTi10's ? (currently have trilams to match with my other polks) SL6001's installed in the RT12's but also have a few sets of silk domes to play around with SL 5001's, SL5500's ect
My thinking is to try and match what I have got for the time being and get a better centre and another 2 channel power amp to drive the fronts down the track.Main use is 5.1 home theater projector setup .Run everything through a Rotel Pre/Pro RSP 1570.
Thanks

I think I have worked out a few things. After playing around with my setup over the last few days I can report that the RTi10's seem to work ok with my Rotel Amp maybe alittle more head room would keep the dial under 50% currently drive the amp at 60% with movies.
I set the crossovers settings to 80hz for all the speakers and the sound seems well balanced.60hz sounds a bit flat 100hz sounds to bassy.I played around setting the fronts to 80hz and the rears to 100hz but 80hz all round seems to sound the best with the sub in my room.
The RT12 used as rears work very well soundstage is seamless, the center blends ok with the fronts.I would say the Trilamate tweeters are a good match for the RTi10's tweeters.
I now have much fuller sound rich and balanced.Im very happy with the setup very good with music.
I think the Rotel RSP 1570 pre/pro and seperate amp really is a magic piece of kit you can tweak all your speakers and get everything to bend really easy.
I do think I will invest in another amp when I can scrap up the cash,I would really like to try a new center how ever I only have 17 inches to fit a new center and most are now too big to fit the space.

Hey, man! What's going on?
I don't have time to deal with your sound problems right now. Good luck!:biggrin:2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's
Living Room: PC > Marantz AV-7703 > Emotiva XPA-5 > Sonus Faber Liuto Towers, Sonus Faber Liuto Center, Sonus Faber Liuto Bookshelves > Dual SVS PC12-Pluses
Office: Phone/Tablet > AudioEngine B1 > McIntosh D100 > Bryston 4B-ST > Polk Audio LSiM-703's -
OK.
I've given myself a little time to digest, and I think I'm ready:
Is there, like, a question here or WTF?2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

I posted questions but sorted out the issues myself Im still interested in finding out about RTi10 and Trilam tweeter matching if anyone has some information in that area.
I bought a set of RTi10 towers I posted a few questions before I set them up.I didnt want to go to all the trouble and find out if my setup would not work or blow speakers using the wrong amp.I read all the posts I could find on RTi10's and compatibility with my other speakers and got conflicting information.I read you need at least a 200 watt amp to drive these speakers and that you need to run a center like a CSiA5 or CSiA6.
I also read that lowering the crossovers to 80hz would work better.I did a search on goggle and found only one other person running RT12 speakers as surrounds with the RTi10's as fronts but they were using a much bigger amp and different center and sub.Not sure if they had upgraded thier RT12 tweeters to the trilams SL6001.
I ended up spending a few days swapping over the different speakers I have and re adjusting the sound levels to get the best match. What I found was that the RTi10's matched up ok with my RT12's amp center and sub.All my other speakers use Trilam tweeters.Everything sounds ok to me, much better than my old setup using the modded RT12's as fronts and RT25i's as rears
