.....local pickup only. My favorite speakers....by far not the best....true classics with tons of (my) memories. My car and I are too old for the trip. Maybe you guys can appreciate some Audio History. Anybody nearby that snags them ...coming into Washington DC.....will trade ...DVP-CX995V - 400-disc mega DVD and SACD changer. Comes with REMOTE and manual on cd. Plus about 80 cd's in binder. And of course, a few beers and lunch.
Don't care about the foam grills or tops.....as long as speakers work. Funky is good for 1970 something.

An easily forgetable loudspeaker....and the world did indeed forget since they went out of business.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

...to EACH their own (opinion) !!
...best 1970's speakers I owned. Better than the Bose 901's....Advent Classics and my second favorite....JBL Century 100's. Also tried a lot of the New England sound. The Time Windows could produce great sound for all occasions.
...Different time and a different sound.
...also owned about every POLK Monitor series....from 4 to 10, Plus 2 SDA series.
...Still long for some ole Time Windows. Good Times & Good Memories.
...Enjoy the MUSIC!!!
...Can't match my Maggies MG I's that are rebuilt......but don't expect them too,
- Fun read below below. Good "ole" days !!

It was a popular speaker line, if you're patient, you'll see some pop locally. I still see them in pawn shops around here from time to time.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

No they're actually still around (last I checked) - sort of a shadow of their former selves, but, like the guy in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, not dead yet.

I liked 'em in 1977 and I still do (i.e., the original timewindow with Philips drivers). -

I probably should have clarified that better but stand corrected. They're still not that great and as uninteresting as any bi-polar design that I've heard. Are we going to split hairs on that design comment too?
Did you just word **** me Mark?! I have your home addy you know....CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
aww, I thought that I was bein' fairly polite :-)
I dunno - I still like 'em (timewindows); I'd rate them as much more successful than most of the 'direct/reflecting' designs. I am much more interested in "tone" than "soundstage"; kinda old school that way.
... all of which begs the question, which I'll hereby unbeg...
so... how do you feel about Allison Ones, eh? -

....Of "COURSE" we are not comparing them to modern "STANDARDS". You, of all people, should KNOW better. Historically, you can't beat them...IMHO. Remember the time period.
.. Still use my DCM "QED"'s in my front HT. They also do a great job , occasionally, as fronts in 2 ch.. Love those ole "Philip's" drivers. -

...Ciao!
With you all the way. Had a pair of Allison One's....Had to sell to raise cash back then.
..These were my type of speakers til I experienced Maggies. -
ahem. Pair of timewindow 1s and a pair of Allison Ones in the basement. The latter are hooked up and ready to rumble any time.
With this disclosure, I doubt that dorokusai will be stoppin' by any time soon in his new ride for a listening party (even though he does know my addy).
:-)
(EDIT: No magneplanars here. All the amplifiers in the house hooked together wouldn't have enough oompf to drive a pair) -

I 'completely' understand that and identify with it. It's one of the reasons I've been picking up some Vintage speakers recently. I've heard a lot of really good, even excellent speakers; they image well, have a great sound stage, quick attack and decay, unbelievable detail, brilliant highs, clean vocals, exceptionally fast/tight bass and so on and on and on. And yet?
There are some speakers that reveal 'so much' that you kinda say to yourself....'enough' already! I just want to listen to some music for a while, OK, is that OK?
cnhCurrently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!
Polk Lsi-7s, Def Tech 8" sub, HK 3490, HK HD 990 (CDP/DAC), AKG Q701s
[sig. changed on a monthly basis as I rotate in and out of my stash] -
You need a pair of Altec Duplexes in the stable (if you don't have any already) - and a good, time-aligned and compensating XO for 'em.
-
...I ran them with Dynaco st70 tubes. And later with "****" receiver ....up in a mountain house. Sounded "GREAT" both ways. MORE power - better SOUND>....TUBES were "AWESOME" !!!
...I am still amazed when I hook up the "QED"s to my 2 channel system. They still have a great sound. The "Qed"s are a half of a Time Window. -

I'm a vague Roy fan. Yeah, that's a...the best way to put them and sure, for their time, not bad. All I recall is checking them out at Circuit City, listening to them and going home dreaming of cookies and the new Dorito flavor.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. While i would never propose to know better about audio gear than most of you guys, not being sarcastic by the way, im serious, THAT HURT.
My lowly tf400s have given us some pretty enjoyable listening, and i hope some nice tws come up on atl cl again, they are one of those speakers that, even though i have never heard, i really do want to experience.
I guess some of the divide in opinion is the wide open soundstage speakers versus more localized sound, god i feel like such a dork trying to talk this stuff with you guys, but i think you know what i mean.
The 400s just disappear as the fronts in a ht, in a good way, and to get the bass out of those two little speakers, well, for us in the couple hundred dollar per pair range, pretty entertaining.humpty dumpty was pushed -

Scott - Look man, we all hear what we hear. I know for a fact that DCM has friendlies, long before I posted my comments. It's a neat loudspeaker but I'm just NOT A FAN. I'm sure that some exquisite sound could be had but I don't find it unique or in anyway justifiable to pick one up. And I'm in the audio resale business.
Your experience is fantastic and what keeps older lines alive. Do you recall a recent Dahlquist thread? I love that speaker, own one and would probably fight club someone over it....is it perfect? no! it's awful in many respects but I dig it....to hell with the rest of you flunkies. We love what we love and we dislike in the same manner. Unless it's Bose related, all of it is just fun banter amongst ppl who give a crap....you know what I mean?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? My post was half in jest, i mean think about it, i have never even heard the speaker, but i do respect the op of some of the guys here.
I seem to remember you saying once one of your favorite non polks was kef 104. something, one of those numbered models.
we love our ragged old unmodded carinaIIs on acoustic and such, and the q 60s i stole for 20 bucks, might someday have the cash for some of the better kefs, they seem to be more in the 5-600 dollar range.humpty dumpty was pushed -
The KEF 104 family did not suck. Nor did the 101, 102, 103, nor the 105.
In fact, I'd still like to snag a pair of the earlier 105 series.

Scott - I know dude, just typing and chatter is all I meant. Yes, I do have a fondness for vintage KEF, a speaker truly worth some second looks and love....DCM?
