lets talk about inductors.

Hey forum,

So after all the info and knowledge you have shared with me, I would like to pick your minds on something that is overlooked when discussing inductors.

to brief, I have learned that air core inductors are preferred over solid or iron core because of their low distortion.

this idea is posted everywhere and is also parts of many indepth write ups on inductors.

Looking into XO mods, it is difficult to find an exact match of DCR and henries that the stock inductors have.

I have noticed that some of you have replaced the stock inductors, most are a metal core, with another metal core of another manufacturer.

These replacement inductors look nicer, they got metal that is cut and placed very well and wound to what looks like perfection.
Not to totally crap on the stock inductors, they look a little rough is all.

SO my question is, is there a gain by replacing the stock, rough around the edges, inductor with another inductor, of exact specs, but looks much nicer and quality made?

make sense? i have seen it done on many of the LSI mods around this forum. I can understand why you get stuck with a metal core because of matching values, just want to pick your brains on the gains.

Thanks again for your input,
