I've seen him live on tour last year(spoken word), definitely worth seeing.

It's nice to see celebrities talking about the hobby as most don't, or aren't interested. I can't understand how someone will spend $10K on a custom subwoofer installation in their car, and won't spend near that on a stereo system in their $10M house.

Perhaps he's an audiophile when listening to the music of other artists, but I don't think 'audiophile' when I've listened to any of his crappy recordings.

I enjoyed the article and love his quote:

"High fidelity is like any other rarefied interest. If it moves you, then you move to it; if not, you go elsewhere. I do not waste time trying to convert anyone to the higher levels of audio. They don't know what they're missing, but to each their own."

On the Home Theater Spot page, could the comment from Jerry Del Colliano be more douchy?

Great article. This might become my signature quote if I ever get one:

If by 'douchy' you mean absolutely accurate, I don't think he could! If he's an audiophile it must be a recent discovery, which is great, but of course something he certainly didn't hint at.

The only reason anyone gives a **** what Henry Rollins has to say is because he's a successful musician so it's key to the story.

Beyond the whole audiophile thing though, Henry Rollins is a sissy Neoplionic **** boy. Greg Gutfeld and Jim Norton said it best:
You don't just preach to the choir, you give it a reach around.

    You're a wuss.

Last night, the great comic Jim Norton pointed it out to me: you?re a wannabee comedian who avoids the risk of being a comedian. Instead, you hide behind this ?spoken word? schtick. That way if no one laughs, it wasn?t supposed to be funny anyway. Castratos have more balls.

I agree. This guy always has an, how can we put it, 'interesting' look on his face! He's an odd one, or at least tries to be.

I can really identify with his youth though, my father had a cheapo record player and he used to play LPs on it all the time, of course his life long ambition was to become a crooner like Sinatra or Bennett, etc. BTW, he did have a marvelous voice, resonant, melodic, powerful.

He used to run a complete collection of Andres Segovia 78s all day long when I was a toddler. Those were the days!

    Nice piece.

Wow. In the spirit of trying to avoid any BS topics on this forum I thought this would be a pretty innocuous subject. I'll keep trying.

    Anyway,

I was more interested hearing the story of how he became interested in this hobby.

I'm not familiar with his work (except for a few movies I've seen him in) so I didn't (and therefore can't) comment on his work.

I really enjoy hearing, in their own words, people in the public eye who are into quality sound reproduction.

I too could relate to hearing lots of music when I was a kid. My dad had a nice collection of jazz from the fifties and sixties (Ahmand Jamal, George Shearing, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck etc.) and my mom had alot of singers (Nat King Cole, Doris Day, Edie Gorme, Frank Sinatra, Streisand etc.).

They had opera, classical and lots of big band too. There was always music on (unless the Lakers were on!).

I was listening to this stuff constantly in the 1970's (I'm almost 50 now).

I heard a "nice" system that belonged to a friend of my Dad's and I was hooked. From that moment forward I could not wait to buy some nice gear.

I clearly remember thinking that if something sounded good on a crappy system it must be awesome on a good setup.

    I was right...

If he isn't an audiophile, he sure does have the thought process and appreciation of the playback that one has. Yes, that comment from Jerry Del Colliano was out of line. It's not a contest and whoever posted that struck me as the type of person who likes to do "member" measurements....in other words, the "Mine is bugger than yours" type guy. His comment, at least to me, just proved that while he make think his member is bigger, his brain sure isn't. Nor are his manners.
