Vinyl Only with LSi9's

I've recently picked up some LSi9's and an Adcom 2535 for listening to vinyl on a Pro-Ject Debut III in my office. I still need phono stage / phono preamp and some type of variable output to complete the system. I'm somewhat comfortable with the phono part (or at least willing to test drive them), it's just the volume / variable out that concerns me. Adding a full blown tuner or receiver seems overkill, but I know nothing about passive volume control either. There are some inexpensive options on Amazon (from Audiosource and TCC to name a few), but I'm wondering if they will be woefully inadequate in front of the LSi's.

I'm obviously fairly new to 2-channel systems, so any advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Ryan, hope you are enjoying your new speakers and amp - and it was nice meeting you! There are several preamps available with a nice phono section. If you want to stay with Adcom, the 555II is a good place to start. I remember reading that their 565 pre has an outstanding phono section.
I thought about the Adcom SLC 505 that is listed on the KC CL, but alas, it has no phono section.

For simplicity I'd also suggest sticking with a pre-amp that has a phono section. One of the better used models is the Nakamichi CA-5. Outstanding phono section, outstanding pre-amp and usually around $250 or less.

Thanks to you both. I actually had picked up SLC 505 to play with. I haven't hooked it up yet with my Cambridge 640...here's hoping it has enough gain. If it doens't, I will definitely look into the CA-5.

    Welcome to Club Polk!

I second H9's recommendation there, for full disclosure...I own a Nakamichi CA-5 and an Adcom GFA-545 in a second system and they're very very nice together.

Another pre, I have which has a very good phono section is the Onkyo/Integra P-304 which is a '70s model built to go with the M-504 power amp by Onkyo. But they're getting a bit long in the tooth. Still like mine though!
