I just got done looking at every solid state amplifier on the Gon and i found about 20 I wanted lol. Very good prices on all the amps too. There were several Halcro, Mark Levinson, Classe, Proceed etc. that were surprisingly cheap compared to retail. Very fun experience:) bed time now.

Check Audiogon every night. Saw a Cinenova Grand 5 channel amp that was listed at 1000.00. What a amp for that price. I would have bought it right then but the thing is physically too big for my setup! Only lasted 6 hours before it was sold.:frown: Great fun in this addictive hobby of ours.

tons of fun. I'm really looking for 2 channel right now as I don't have nearly the funds for a new 5 channel, because with that what I'm planning to get in the future is a separate 5, 6 or 7 channel amp and a processor and what I've seen is extremely expensive, up near 4 or 5 thousand. pictures of the Halcro amps are online with what looks like water hose connecting them lol Love it. 20 grand on the amps 20 more on the cables lol

If you are interested I might be selling a mint Parasound 1500A when I get a 5 channel amp. I love Parasounds sound and quality. Think highly of John Curl. I will most likely be sticking with Parasound when I move up to multi channel and the only reason in doing that is to get a good quality preamp/processor. I will most likely post the Parsound on CP when I am ready to sell.

Ok I'll look at it. I have never heard a parasound, I'm 23 and don't have real listening experience with high end audio. I only grew up listening to my dad's Polk rta 12's and Adcom GFA 1a. only in the last year or so have I really dug into Ultra high end and better than average quality and better than that.

The nice thing about Parasound is that they tame down the the brightness that is associated with alot of Polk speakers. These amps are built like a tank and you see that with this model . Large 1Kva Torroid transformer and capable of supplying 60 amps peak perchannel. I have had several Carver amps, a Adcom,Anthem and to me the Parasound was the best. I can let you know when I have it for sale since I am hopefully close on getting a Parasound multi cahannel. I will also be selling my Marantz MA700 mono block also.

Audiogon isn't for the weak willed. Spent too much time there and you
won't be able to pay the mortgage.

Some nice gear listed there and probably every piece is above 'my' price range. I really don't like to pay more than 4 or 500 for anything used. My wife is also a factor here. Even 3-400 brings the eternal refrain, "What do you need that for, you already have one (more than one)!".

But if you have the coin and no one is tugging at your ear, more "power" to you. Is that a 'pun'?

I hear ya. My brother-in-law is addicted to this hobby also. So sometimes I buy stuff for him and then he pays me back.I am hoping I am shielding some of that feedback from my sister(his wife) to my bro-law. But then I have to face my sister and I know she wonders the same thing......why did you have to get him that,he already haves one ? But I think it is harder for her to get mad at me,her brother, though I am sure she lets my bro-law hear about it also. But I believe more power in numbers, two against one

Your not only brothers, you belong to one really big family. Think of all the gear we would have if it was not for the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). When I see something online and I ask " why in the world are you selling this ?" When they come back with the WAF, I shake my head and say no more.

Depends on what's been refurbed and whether it comes with a warranty?

I got my Adcom GFA-555 from Audiogon a few years ago for 300. Since I picked it up myself...there was no shipping. I'm sure my wife thought that was 'too' much. But I was very happy with it and still am. Those Adcoms are extremely reliable units compared to some other power amps. I won't mention names since they sound good and a lot of people like those others.

it says it's been completely updated and professionally evaluated.
there is a used 5500 on Audiogon for $300 and it's located above Atlanta. Isn't the 555 almost the same as a 5500? I know the 5500 has a little more power into 4 ohms.
I haven't a clue if any of the sellers meet a buyer half way for pick up. I actually just registered on there and it's pending, they have a 4-8 hour processing period or somethin.

I just made my 2nd Gon purchase...expect the Parasound HCA-1000 to arrive around next Tuesday and I'm still looking there(and here) for potential other "upgrades". Recently sold a tractor so I can do this sort of thing but problem is my "I want" list is too long and seems to get longer by the day.
Yep, my name really is Bob.

If you have some play money, audiogon can be a good value for trying gear out....buy it used....try it....and if you don't like it....put it up for sale again....move on to something else to try.

It's not like you'd be stuck with a piece of gear.
